Just curious. I was thinking about this today. If John Edwards were nominated do you think with that he should go with somebody like Sen. Dodd who has a good deal of experience? and who I think has been an interesting candidate so far as well. Regionally they would complement each other as well. Obviously if Sen. Clinton were nominated it wouldn't be wise for her to pick someone from the North. If Obama were nominated I think he should look south to someone like Gen. Clark (Hillary too) and if Gore were nominated I'm kind of hoping he would pic Obama, but Dodd would be a good partner for him too.

Your thoughts?

1. I think that 2 senators on one ticket is begging for trouble.
But that's just me and recent history.

2. Good point
My only quibble is that Edwards isn't really thought of as Washington because he only served one term in the Senate.

3. I agree - he needs to pick a governor.
My personal pick is Gov. Kathlyn Sebelius of Kansas. That should shake up the midwest.

11. I do want to say that
seven months from now, It is my theory that (regardless of how low McCain might be polling now nationally, I still think that McCain will be the GOP Nominee at the end of the day.

If you've watched him in the debates...He could get Independents to vote for him in the GOP primaries (especially in NH) instead of them voting in the Dem primary (cause Independents have a choice of which primary to vote in).

Independents agree with quite a few things that McCain has stood for....issues that have resonated with them-
1. Most would prefer to see some kind of legalization process in any immigration bill,
2. He consistently been pro-life instead of wishy washy (unlike both Guliani and Romney),
3. He the strongest on Defense (Guliani's cross dress will be killing him soon),
4. McCain is a bonafide hero who now says he doesn't believe in torture (see 1st GOP debate),
5. We cannot simply retreat from Iraq (independents believe that....we can't stay, but we can't rush out "bring the troops home either).....
these are all strong points for Independent voters.....

and may be enough to get them to cross the GOP primary line to cast a vote for McCain.

If that's the case, Edwards.....if he were to do well and end up with the nomination can't just pick anyone for VP.

8. What Governor would you pick that has national security experience?
Sebelius would be perfect to fix Homeland Security and FEMA. She has been complaining for years about the use/abuse of the National Guard as it relates to domestic welfare and security. I think she is President of the National Dem Governors Association.

She would be perfect - very popular in a heavily Repub state and well known in the region for her activism regarding domestic security problems.

10. He could go Richardson, or Gen. Z.inni.......I suppose.....
Edited on Thu Jun-07-07 05:48 PM by FrenchieCat
Considering that the during the GE, Edwards will be portrait as a hard left liberal, Zinni wouldn't be a bad idea though.....in particular considering that Edwards need strong defense on his side to win a General Election, IMO. Otherwise, he's susceptible to Media "engineered" Terror scare stuff at the 11th hour.

Although Zinni was quite the ardent Republican at one point (don't know about now), he was outspoken about this war for quite some time....and was a Middle East Commander.

Richardson is probably a better bet for VP than for Prez anyways.....as something is missing from his demeanor to allow the thought of his as President (sorry to say). He'd bring in the West....which Edwards would need.

9. I like Dodd
But for the top of the ticket , given his experience---- which isn't going to happen.

If Edwards prevails, he probably would pick Obama. I would prefer Clark, but there is bad history between the two of them

I still dream of Al donning his cape and coming to the rescue. Experience, plus global recognition and acceptance, plus leadership etc. etc.
