Honestly... a jail sentence was too good for Paris Hilton.
It would have been much better if the judge sentenced her to serving community service instead.

Imagine the public humiliation she would have to 'suffer' as the paparazzi
followed her around picking up refuse in the inner city, washing bedpans
at a convalescence center or serving food at a rehab clinic.

<sob/tantrum> My manicure is ruined! </sob/tantrum>

What a great reality show that would have made!

1. They probably let her out because the guards couldn't take it any more...
Community service would be having to guard her at the jail for those three days!

3. Apparently she was too good for jail.
And the "humiliation" you describe, is that not the plot of her reality show?

4. I wonder what the freepers are saying about her.
They believe that prison is suppose to be a bad experience. I wonder if the same rules apply to Hilton?

12. I doubt this has anything to do with either parties.
Honestly, nobody likes her except what ever friends she has and all the dumb teenage girls that wanna be like her.

5. Not picking up bedpans, please
because I fear she'd be a little hard on the old folks who needed them.

Seriously, she's not looking well, at all. She is pathetically underweight, and I suspect there is a disease process besides substance abuse going on.

I hope she gets her act together. She's not going to be able to be a professional "beautiful person" a whole lot longer the way she's headed.

6. So how many REALLY thought she'd ever serve time?
I didn't anticipate that she'd get out so quickly, but I thought she'd at least do 10 days before they threw her out "for her own saftey" or some other crock.

8. I continue to have a nagging problem with the notion of "community service" as a punishment.
"No man stands so tall as when he stoops to help a child."

"Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me." (Matthew 25:40)

Why can't we regard community service as an honor?

9. Very profoundly true....and a sad testament to what one might consider
punishment.

So I say that Community Service would been too good for Paris Hilton!

11. I'm hoping that people, once they've performed CS, will see it
as you do. I'm hoping they'll feel better about themselves in the process, and learn that there is something bigger than themselves in the world. I guess that is why I can't completely condone the notion, but you are so right in your vision and values.

10. All this proves
Is that in LA there are two types of Justice, one for celebrities and one for everyone else. If you're a celeb you can do anything you want, and rarely if ever, receive any punishment.

13. I truly don't understand the intense dislike most people seem to have for her
I mean, she's not Bill O'Lielly or Lee (Jabba the CEO) Raymond of Exxon/Mobil or Darth Cheney or Bunnypants Boosh*.

She's merely an airheaded twit with too much time on her hands. Is she this resented for being famous for being famous? (Hey, I didn't put her in that position!) Is she resented for being heiress to the Hilton fortune? (Well, I suppose SOMEBODY had to be.)

If the MSM weren't so obsessed with reporting on her every bowel movement, I'd guess most people would probably forget her in short order.

Edited on Fri Jun-08-07 04:22 AM by Selatius
Born into wealth, a life of privilege, likely never known a hard day's work, or known the fear of an abusive employer, she only became known because the corporate news media felt she was the perfect weapon of mass distraction.

One minute of news about her is one less minute one has to devote to things such as health care, education, the environment, labor issues, the growing gap between rich and poor, the failed drug war, the war, etc.

To be sure, there are people out there who probably resent her for her sheer wealth or the fact that she gained that wealth without working for it. That would make a lot of people resentful, in a world where many who have worked hard their entire lives and have never risen above modest means. My main bone of contention is that she is a distraction from the big picture.

15. my only comment on paris
she's now required to wear an ankle bracelet and required to stay at home

any bets within a week she'll be picked up for leaving her home? with or without the bracelet?

yeah, the bracelet is probably fairly tamper-proof, but there are always ways around that..
