Lifelong Republican Attorney's SWORN Affidavit That ROVE IN CHARGE Of DOJ Firing
Edited on Thu Jun-07-07 09:11 PM by kpete
It is a curious process by which some questions of dubious import get pressed endlessly and others, which matter far more, are entirely ignored. I think we have one of these cases here. And if you'll indulge me I'd like a moment to explain what I mean.

A lifelong Republican attorney from Alabama, Dana Jill Simpson, has come forward and sworn out an affidavit claiming that in 2002 a close associate of Karl Rove claimed that Rove had told him that he'd gotten the Department of Justice to investigate then-Alabama Governor Don Siegelman (D) and that he was sure the investigation would eventually take Siegelman out of politics. Is the claim true? Was Rove successfully using the DOJ to pursue politics by other means as far back as 2002?

1. So the question has to be asked...can Rove be arrested for this?

16. Rove, Gonzales & Cheney already have more than enough evidence to arrest them
That is clearly not the problem. The problem is finding enough people of spine and principle in these degenerate times to risk their lives and the lives of their families (not to mention any potential victims f a Bush-orchestrated nuclear 9/11 (God Forbid) which becomes more likely the closer any Royal Bushies come to going to jail.

topics for the M$M to cover, like the conditions of Ms. Hilton's house arrest

hope I'm wrong, of course, but how many stories like this have surfaced, only to be flushed down the memory hole?

9. I'm thinking he already has it, but that's not a bad idea. not that his
coverage of the caging story has had any effect on the other "journalists" out there, including his own parent company

can you imagine the outcry if it had been reported that Clintonistas had pulled BS like this?

just remember that they ginnned up Whitewater out of NOTHING (the Clinton's were described as the VICTIMS of Hale, McDougal, etal, in the first Whitewater trial, which fact was ignored completely in the M$M), and kept it going until Paula Jones, Kathleen Willey, and Monica crawled out of their respective rocks with the help of Brock, Isikoff, Starr, and his elves

now I'm REALLY pissed!

Rove Linked to Prosecution of Ex-Alabama Governor
By ADAM ZAGORIN/WASHINGTON

In the rough and tumble of Alabama politics, the scramble for power is often a blood sport. At the moment, the state's former Democratic governor, Don Siegelman, stands convicted of bribery and conspiracy charges and faces a sentence of up to 30 years in prison. Siegelman has long claimed that his prosecution was driven by politically motivated, Republican-appointed U.S. attorneys.

Now Karl Rove, the President's top political strategist, has been implicated in the controversy. A long time Republican lawyer in Alabama swears she heard a top G.O.P. operative in the state say that Rove "had spoken with the Department of Justice" about "pursuing" Siegelman, with help from two of Alabama's U.S. attorneys. ..............

12. NOT: The SWORN Affidavit DOES NOT SAY that.
Not that "ROVE IN CHARGE Of DOJ Firing" but only that someone said they talked to Rove. Rove is a hearsay player in the affidavit.

13. How Rove might be arrested? No way he is above the law.
No crime is too outrageous, no lie to great, slander, libel, theft, and treason. The fact he is still in Government is proof that the Republic has succumbed and the Constitution is irrelevant.

15. First, he must be charged with a crime. That requires evidence, and a prosecutor.
Where is the evidence? In the United States, a nation of laws, being hated is not a crime. And hearsay is not admissible.

The fact that he is still in government is only proof that Bush wants him in government still (and that there is still no evidence that Rove committed a crime). He is not above the law, as you say, and he might be arrested, but a process must come to a proper fruition first. This is a significant moment, but not the end of the story, just the beginning.

18. I'm very disappointed by all sides...
Edited on Thu Jun-07-07 10:27 PM by originalpckelly
our side for trying to make it look like Bob Riley was being supported by the Klan, and the far bigger problem of a lawyer from Riley's team being a lawyer for the other side and convincing that candidate to resign. All around, this is disgraceful. I don't care if these people think it's not a big deal, and I don't care about any possibility that this is a long tradition, it is wholly totally un-American.

And then there's that whole *small* part about Rove controlling people at the DOJ.

23. Still No Smoking Gun...
While I wish it were, we still have yet to see a memo directly from Rove or some hidden recording of him giving a briefing about this. Yes, I know he's hiding a lot of this stuff, but he learned the lessons of Watergate and other political bosses well...leave a very thin paper trail.

Unfortunately all evidence remains circumstantial...as I believe those in possesion with real evidence are intimidated by Rove and his current power. He also created a web of Goodlings and others to further innoculate him from direct complicity in many of his crimes as he trained his foot soldiers so well they could do his bidding without him being directly involved.

Hopefully, the more people are investigated, the more cracks appear and somehow/somewhere a real piece of damning evidence will surface....and I suspect it will. This is just one more step in that direction.

27. Yes, it is
You're right. An affidavit from someone saying that someone else told her that Rove said he committed a crime is hearsay and not admissible, that I can tell. Witness A could testify to an out of court statement made by Rove if Rove is ever a defendant (or party to a lawsuit); but Witness B can't testify to A's statement as to what Rove said unless B's statement falls within a hearsay exception. I can't think of one that would apply here.

Of course, a search warrant doesn't have to be based on admissible evidence....

31. An objection would probably be sustained during a trial
but this isn't testimony offered during a trial. If what someone said to another couldn't be reported because it is "hearsay" then 90% of our news reporting wouldn't take place, and police would have virtually no leads to pursue during criminal investigations.
