Troops' lives 'wasted' in Iraq

The UK's former ambassador in Washington has called for a speedy withdrawal from Iraq, insisting troops' lives are being wasted.

Sir Christopher Meyer said the campaign was now not worth the death of "another single further British or American serviceman".

"I personally believe that the presence of American and British forces is making things worse, not only in Iraq, but in the wider area around Iraq. The argument against staying for any greater length of time strengthens with every day that passes," he said. snip

Sir Christopher said that although every decision in foreign affairs was "fraught with risk", he backed pulling out of Iraq quickly and trying to establish international conferences to stabilise the region.

"I don't think the situation in Iraq now is worth the life of another single further British or American serviceman," he said.

1. Our leaders should go to Iraq and fight

I would completely agree. We will eventually leave and when we leave there will be a power struggle and someone or some group will take over. It will happen. We can't and won't stay there forever. So if the same outcome will occur next year or next week, what value is it to expend more lives on a doomed proposition?

Political expediency just doesn't = the blood spilt. That equation is crap.

Send our leaders and let them patrol Baghdad. Bring our troops home.
