Does DU now crash your Internet Explorer? |
|
Ever since the server upgrade, DU has been crashing my IE web browser. Am I the only one experiencing this?

2. Why are you still using IE? |
|
There's no excuse, really. It's drek, it doesn't display web sites as they're designed, it SUCKS. Time to upgrade to a real browser.

7. I am an IT person, I know of FireFox |
|
I use it as well. Unfortunately there are still some web features it can't handle as well as IE. Streaming music seems to be it's bain. I know it doesn't handle Sirius Sat Radio streaming as well as IE, I have had similar complaints with Yahoo's offering.
As for displaying websites as designed, well that's not exactly correct. Every web browser displays websites slightly differently. Web designers still design primarially for IE (still the #1 brower) and Firefox.

25. Then I suppose you also know about Opera, which... |
|
I've found generally beats Firefox at most things. And doesn't crash with the IE/Flash thing the Admins think is the problem.
Yeah, you're right that most sites are made to look good in IE, and when I was building a few sites I had to keep a bunch of browsers on hand to see what each one looked like-- a great annoyance. Back then it was IE and Netscape you had to go for, now it's IE and Firefox, and my great annoyance now is webmasters and "artists" who insist on wasting bandwidth and crashing browsers for something they, and they alone, think is way cool.
And nonstandard HTML, XML, Java...
I have written to potential vendors that if they can't put togther a website I can read with the browser of MY choice, I doubt they can make a product I can use.
Sorry, I lost control there for a minute.
Rant off.

that require IE, many that I need for working on my computer. Firefox is not the answer for everyone.

Yes that's the error I get |
|
It's an Adobe add on that is causing the crashes. Tried to upgrade, but it didn't help.

16. Something messed our IE up so bad we switched to FoxFire |
|
We are having a connectivity problem when our ISP was bought by MediaCom. Which they are coming to fix.
But before that FoxFire had no problem with DU. Switch to FoxFire.

20. Skinner has a thread up on this |
|
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=389x1068212I was doing a bit of research this morning and came across this: http://www.devlib.org/blog/2007/02/25/uninstall-flash-in-ie7-and-reinstall-fixes-crash-issues/ It appears the problem may be caused by the Adobe Flash plugin. The above link contains a possible (although not guaranteed) solution.

it crashed. (I thought someone was trying to tell me something. ;)) At home last night though, I didn't seem to have that problem.
Edited to say, my last statement is now incorrect. I'm at home and just tried to click on link to the Laura Bush / Stephen Colbert video, and I crashed.
