Got the "Atheist Holidays" e-mail from a friend....
Edited on Fri Jun-08-07 11:39 AM by ingac70
I worked with this guy for 10 years. I love him like a brother, but he's a big time Holy Roller. He sent this e-mail to me, as well as to bunch of other people, about a "court case" involving an Atheist.... he sent this as fact and not a joke.......

<Have you heard about this court case?

In Florida, an atheist became incensed over the preparation of Easter and
Passover holidays. He decided to contact his lawyer about the discrimination
inflicted on atheists by the constant celebrations afforded to Christians
and Jews with all their holidays while atheists had no holiday to celebrate.
The case was brought before a wise judge. ;After listening to the long
passionate presentation by the lawyer, the Judge banged his gavel and
declared "Case Dismissed."

The lawyer immediately stood and objected to the ruling and said, "Your
Honor, how can you possibly dismiss this case? Christians have Christmas,
and Easter many other observances. Jews have Passover, Yom Kppur and
Hanukkah......yet my client and all other atheists have no such holidays."

The judge leaned forward in his chair and simply said, "Obviously your
client is too confused to even know about, much less celebrate, his own
atheists holiday!"

The lawyer pompously said, "Your Honor, we are unaware of any such holiday
for atheists. Just when might that holiday be, your Honor?"

The judge said, "Well it comes every year on exactly the same date.....April
1st! Since our calendar sets April 1st as April Fools Day , consider that
Psalm 14:1, Psalm 53 states, The fool says in his heart, there is no God.
Thus, in my opinion, if your client says there is no God, then by scripture
he is a fool, thus April 1st is his holiday!"

Pray that some day our courts will be full of judges of this kind.....maybe
then , we can put God back where He belongs.........in everything we do.....

Way to go, Judge!>

This has been debunked by snopes, so I couldn't help myself, I sent the snopes link to him and to everyone else he sent this e-mail to.

1. A tutorial on the origins of many "Christian" holidays might also be in order.

4. Yay for Snopes
This sort of nonsense is fuel for the "War against Christmas" faction, which no doubt loves to send this type of e-mail around. :eyes:

7. Ha, Ha, Ha. Write him back telling him that Christmas and Easter are actually pagan holidays.
And Easter, in particular, is a traditional ritual celebrating fertility (eggs) and fucking (bunnies)...

Unless he really thinks the rabbits and eggs have something to do with Jesus?

Although the guy is obviously an idiot, so it's probably a waste of time.

8. Every theist knows exactly what it's like to be an atheist.
Which is why I never understand their claims to the contrary.

Every one of these fundamentalists dismisses the claims of every other religion- they deny the existence of every other god. Most of the fundamentalists I've known dismissed other mythologies in ways much more offensive and disrespectful than those used by the atheists I've known.
