All of this "sympathy for Paris" shit makes me want to puke
I'm tired of that spoiled twit always popping up on my television screen.

I'm tired of looking at her smug face always thrust in front of a camera.

I'm tired of her, PERIOD!!!!

People who drink and drive are not treated kindly by society, as well they shouldn't.

Have you ever seen a demo of an ACTUAL car that was involved in a drunk driving crash?

They normally set them out in front of fire stations. The sight of it is enough to make you physically ill. Twisted metal, broken glass, and even stains of blood. The problem is, the blood normally belongs to an innocent victim who happened to be minding his or her own business when the drunken animal crashed into him or her.

To add insult to injury, after being busted for drunk driving, Paris had the NERVE to drive on a suspended license. :wtf:

This behavior may be acceptable in her own little warped and privileged world, but thankfully, the law in this country is supposed to apply to ALL -- regardless of the amount in your bank account, the number of men you fucked in front of a camera, and the popularity of your shitty reality show.

Don't tell ME she wasn't given preferential treatment.

Don't tell ME her bony ass didn't deserve to be hauled back into court.

Don't tell ME to have sympathy for that little no talent, law breaking twit.

And I have seen an actual car that was involved in a drunk driving accident. One of my best friend's husband perished in the crash. Left behind a loving wife, two beautiful kids.

Driver, drunk as all hell, walked away.

12. Sadly, that is usually what happens
the drunks stay relaxed and don't get hurt. I had a cousin who was killed by a drunk driver. He was crossing a street at the corner, and the boozer ignored him and mowed him down. Ironically, this cousin was a recovering alcoholic and was walking because he had had his license taken away for DWIs.

I guess I may seem heartless to many dems who think prisoners should get special stuff while in jail, I am one who thinks prison shouldn't be fun (tv, gyms, etc) it should be a place no one wants to go to.

But I don't agree with hurting anyone physically under any circumstances.

73. Joe Arpaio actually offered to take her
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Eml2yNzmwU&mode=related&search=

But I really don't think Arpaio is someone to be celebrated. His jail system is the third largest in the country, even though Phoenix is not one of the biggest cities. His attitude of "lock everyone up, even the non-violent ones" is why our prison system is so out of control and huge. And the fact that he makes himself into a folk hero only increases our society's thirst for punishment.

Arpaio is also a major Bush fan. :puke:

People get chance after chance after chance, especially on petty bullshit like this. The only time they would get jail is if there was a violent offense involved, and that's often only 30 days. Still, she was sentenced and that's also part of our system, she's not the first to have to sit in a jail cell unfairly.

Because I've watched people get chance after chance, time after time. The only time they wouldn't get a break is if they had a record that the judge was aware of. But for most people, they wouldn't get jail time. At the most they'd get house arrest. People can pretend whatever they want, but thats the truth of it.

Then she didn't show up for court.

I'm not sure how informed you are about the courts and the justice system, but they take your history into account with sentencing. There is also a separate category/charge for suspended license due to say an unpaid ticket and a suspended license due to a DUI. Oh, and she also didn't fulfill her court-mandated alcohol rehabilitation after the DUI.

129. I'm not changing a damn thing
I will, however, consult another source about this, as I suspect you love shooting off "knowledge" as fact:

Fact: Remember That Drunk Driving Is A Criminal Offense

http://www.expertlaw.com/library/drunk_driving/Drunk_Arrest.html

Fact: The punishments vary significantly from state to state. All drunk driving offenses carry potential jail sentences.

http://www.expertlaw.com/library/drunk_driving/Drunk_Driving_Charge.html

Fact: Penalties for Driving Without a License in California

Driving without a valid license is a misdemeanor in California, and may be punished by probation, time in county jail, and fines of up to $1000 plus surcharges. For a first offense, many prosecutors will reduce the charge to an infraction (which is not a criminal conviction) or dismiss the charge altogether if the person obtains a valid drivers license before the court hearing. Our criminal and DUI defense lawyers have been very successful in getting charge reductions and dismissals in these sorts of cases.

http://www.southern-california-dui-defense.com/driving_without_license.html

Fact: Penalties for Driving With a Suspended License in California

Driving on a suspended license is a misdemeanor offense and punishment may include probation, jail time and substantial fines. Penalties in a given case depend on (1) the reason the license was suspended and (2) whether the defendant suffered prior convictions for driving with a suspended license. Generally, penalties are higher if the license was suspended or revoked because of a DUI conviction, a vehicular manslaughter conviction, or a finding that the driver is a habitual traffic offender.

In practice, prosecutors are often willing to reduce driving on suspended license cases to lesser offenses, to non-criminal infractions, or to dismiss them altogether. This is especially true if the person has no criminal history, and if he takes steps to get his California drivers license reinstated prior to the resolution of the criminal case. A good criminal defense attorney can usually help you reach a favorable resolution of your case.

Fact: I did NOT tell you to shut up. Perhaps that "inner voice" sounds similiar to mine?

128. DUI (1st offense), driving on suspended license (2nd offense)
Differences? The suspended license was for an unpaid ticket, not a prior DUI (which means it's a lesser charge, btw). Another difference? No double parole violation.

They went to jail for 20 days.

131. That's TWO separate offenses
Her driving on suspended was for the DUI, ONE OFFENSE. You're talking about someone with multiple driving offenses - and who knows what else you're not talking about. It's not likely the person would have gone to jail for 20 days for what you're talking about either, unless years had passed or the person had been in other trouble, etc.

But of course, you are the ultimate authority on all things and clearly nobody in the history of America has served time for a double probation violation charge and a double driving while license is suspended charge... nor do judges sentence based on the history of the defendant and their repeated disregard for the law.

POOR PARIS. Nobody has ever, ever been so railroaded by the justice system as she has. *wipes tear*

It's not a first offense, and it was also a probation violation.

In my experience, if you violate your probation in any way, they tend to throw the book at you.

Laws need to be applied equal to everyone but it's a money game just like politics and who you are .

What this does do or should do is show us just how unfair and petty and insane this country is however it won't .

When you really look at this in any real sense it shows we live in a fake surreal world .

65. Yeah, that baffles me too.
I've seen many rich people who've gotten drunk, in an accident, or pulled over. And I always wonder "Hey, you're worth millions and billions, get a limo and then go drinking!" When the pitcher Josh Hancock died last month, the dude was drunk, high(with pipe in the car) on the cell phone, speeding, veered off onto the shoulder, and wasn't wearing a seat belt. I still shake my head and wonder why he didn't hire a driver.

I don't know, I think that the money goes to their head and they think that they are gods. Stan Kronke(of WalMart fame) got popped for a DUI a few years back in my home town. His first reaction was "Do you know who I am? Do you know that I can have your ass on a platter for this?" Cop hauled him in anyway and he was charged, tried and convicted. Only now does he ride around with a driver.

 2700 sq' ought to be enough for about 25 of them.

What people don't seem to understand is that there are innocent people who do more jail time than Paris has done ... people who cannot afford bail and have not been tried (and have the 'wrong' color skin).

When I juxtapose the Paris Panderfest against the human rights abuses we're activly committing at Gitmo and the abuses of Abu Ghraib, I get nauseated.

Paris Hilton is in it for the attention. She wants publicity. Any publicity. She doesn't care if you like her, or hate her, as long as you're all talking about her, she's getting what she wants. It's all one big publicity stunt, from the sex tape to the courtroom outburst. If people just stopped talking about her, she'd wither up and die.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- A Sacramento man accused of drunken driving and causing a wreck that killed four people on Monday was released from jail early Wednesday after posting bail.

Roberto Vellanoweth, who was appointed by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger last year to the state Board of Optometry and has been active in Republican politics, walked out of jail just after 6 a.m.

-------------------

And guess what, he is a prominent Republican who constantly gets his hearings delayed (now it is June 28) and walks around a free man.

Here are three of his victims:

87. I am not in any way defending Paris.
Many of us believe that it is a judge's duty to administer
Justice. They should be level-handed. Just because a
\defendent may be viewed as spoiled and pampered, We Do
Not Send People to Jail for Being Spoiled and Pampered.

It has been researched and found that no one who ever committed
the"crime" received 45 days in Jail in California.

The original sin was the Sentence .(Judge bowing to public Pressure
from Fox News and Radio in California). She is rich .
\
The Sheriff has released people on a regular basis including
Celebrities.

Now the Judge is mad at Sheriff and he punishes Hilton
to get even.

No way am I defending Paris. She has served 5 days.
This is not even a crime which requires jail time in California.

Yes, she needed some type punishment. It should have been
in keeping with the way other people who committed same crime.

As MSNBC consultant said. We decided Paris represent the
problem of Have and Have Nots. Who gave the Media this
decision to make.

American Justice usually means being sentenced for a crime.
Not for being rich beautiful and perceived as spoiled and
pampered. Being spoiled and pampered is not a crime.

driving on a suspended sentence or a second probation violation on a DUI? Isn't this her second probation violation? I read that online somewhere but it could certainly wrong. If that's what happened here, what kind of sentence does that usually get?

I agree that she should be treated exactly the same as anyone else in the same circumstances, but I'll admit I don't know what a normal sentence is in a case like this.

94. Stone Her, I Say and then cut off her hair!
I was almost killed by a drunk driver. ...a seventy-five mile an hour head on collision. I was unconscious for over over 12 hours and my face was swollen even with my nose. I could barely move for weeks I was so battered and bruised and torn all to hell. I was almost killed. 30 years later I still have light scars from that wreck. I was sober. The drunk who hit me walked away with barely a scratch. Still, I am an alcoholic, 15 years sober, so I understand the pull of that addiction. It IS a disease. Period. Undebatable. A Fact.

If I had my way no non-violent offender would go to jail. Not the poor, not the rich. No non-violent offender would go to jail.

If I was the judge I would sentence her to something more meaningful and something that might actually sink in. I am BIG on community service. I would have her work on a soup line feeding the homeless, EVERY day. ...and she couldn't make her maids do it for her. I would make her visit the morgue several times and drive around with EMT folks, seeing just what can really happen when you drive drunk...some therapy...some drying out...getting off the alcohol and drugs...take her license, etc. There are much better ways to make an impression that REALLY lasts, on a person, than locking them up. ...and isn't, ultimately, the purpose to make sure they never do it again. If she wouldn't comply I would commit her to rehab. Alcohoism is even a disease when it hits the rich.

I have also been locked up. I can't express to folks here, the horror of it. I would rather go through the wreck again than spend another night in jail. The life I've led, nuthouses, abusive parents, leaving home at 15, being homeless for YEARS at a time, two years in a state nuthouse in Texas, 35 years ago with stories that would make your hair stand on end and jail time, etc...and nothing in all of that, stands out like the jail time and it was never for more than a couple of days at a time. I just cannot express sufficiently, evidently, the horror of jail.

...and the blood lust over here makes me ill.

Lee

101. What was the French Revolution about?
I'm surmising that the judge could have sentenced her to all those commendable things, but she'd not it. She didn't pay any attention to her probationary sentence before and it involved nothing on her part.

There is a love hate relationship that is beginning to fester in this country just beneath the surface between the rising tide of ultra rich that get it all, and those many Americans that seem to get less with each passing year. Wasn't the blood lust of the French Revolution brought about by the same conditions.

103. IF She Didn't Comply
If she didn't comply, I would stick her in rehab. I simply will never support jail for non-violent offenders. Not. Ever. Shrinks have shown, time and again, that this form of behaviorism is ineffective. It does nothing for future relapses and doesn't dissuade at all.

"We want our rights
...and we don't care how.
We want a revolution now."

Yes, off with the heads of the rich except that this silly child is in no position of power, authority or anything else. I will NEVER be locked up again and I will never support locking people up simply because of the accident of their birth...poor or rich or inbetween.

130. I beg to disagree, she's not a silly child, she's a greedy arrogant bitch
As someone who was in the service, married and with a son at 19, it disturbs me too hear that 26 yo mega rich Paris is a helpless child.

100. I just feel so sorry for her
Because her character is so shallow that she doesn't understand that character is built upon hardship and responsibility. It's obvious she has never faced either. Except in her opinion she has faced real hardship in her life when she spends a short amount of time participating in the lives of average Americans portrayed on the reality show "A Simple Life" (or whatever it's called)...and getting paid for it because stupid people watched it. Now she'll get to spend time and not get paid for it.

It seems our society is overrun with ultra rich and famous spoiled celebrity brats that too many Americans fawn over, whether they be Paris, Brittany or the many jocks that are now rich low lifes. The sad part is that each and everyone of them negatively impacts the lives of the young and impressionable.

As the poster girl for all this Paris and her arrogant, smug, haughty demeanor may see some change, or maybe she'll have to go out and get a real job.

102. Absolutely Right!
I cannot believe all the people who feel soooooo sorry for poor litte Paris Hilton.

She is a spoiled, no-talent rich person who feels that the law is for "the little people".

She deserves a BIG slap-down.

120. The closest I've come to having "sympathy" for her is reading the "off with her head" posts of some
Edited on Fri Jun-08-07 06:09 PM by impeachdubya
seriously deranged folks here, many of whom seem to be engaged in some sort of weird, masturbatory fantasies about the French Revolution.

She should serve the same sentence as anyone else who has committed her crimes; no more, no less- and I say that as someone who had a friend killed by a drunk driver.

But being rich, shallow, or even -gasp!- having "casual sex" (which was what pissed off at least one poster here) are not crimes, not yet at least.

126. Thank-you
I thought I had accidentally fallen into the Marquis de Sade forum. It's disturbing, to say the least.
Just fyi, this wasn't for drunk driving. It was for breaking the terms of her probation and even her first thing wasn't DUI. It was some kind of lesser California made-up charge...Driving Wet or something...<g> Essentially, DUI Lite.

I couldn't care less about Paris Hilton, but I only have so much hate and I have to reserve it for people that truly deserve it.

150. If I had posted a pity thread here claiming her crimes and her punishment as my own...
I would get nailed to the wall. It wouldn't even be a debate.. Just outrage. And a bunch of shit talking. And everyone here knows that would be the result.
