Those with booze to imbibe please join me in a toast to our dear departed
Not just Monkeyman but to all of our "peace warriors" that have left us too soon. I'm downing two 40's of Bud and half a Vicodan to salute you tonight Dale. I know shouldn't mix my shit but have to do it on the cheap so that's how we roll tonight.

Raise a glass with me DU.

Good Journey Dale. We thank you for having touched our lives.

devastated by his death.I begged him to go to the hospital and even told him we would donate money but he said no.
Goodbye dead friend,I hope you are with your wife and have found paradise.

25. Thanks, shadow. I read about this last night and had to step away from
the 'puter and DU. I so didn't want to believe the news, but I know Dale knew I had the highest respect for him. We followed each other around on DU, trying to inspire interest in veterans issues.
He'd mail me links, and I'd post them.
I didn't 'know' him, but what I knew, I liked a whole lot. I can only hope he knew that, too.

ABANDONED SOLDIERS

Sarge Lintecum
Copyright 1994, 1998

You say they're all dead.
You dismiss them from your mind,
Condemning them to slavery.
To facts it seems you're blind.

We who made it back
Know they didn't all die,
For we are among the few
Who must listen to them cry.

You believe the TV set,
And the politicians too,
Even though we've caught them all
Saying things that were not true.

But when it's acts of treason
Like a drug running CIA,
Or death squads trained in Georgia,
You look the other way.

It's not the government that forgot them
They know that they are there.
I'm afraid the blame must fall on you,
The American people just don't care.

You don't care for your veterans
Who made it back alive,
You don't care if they have more wars
Hell, you're on the winning side.

You allow them to commit treason
Then vote them in again.
No wonder we have to watch TV
To see the good guys win.

Since the Bolshevik Revolution
In every single war
We've abandoned our POWs,
When they're gone we lock the door.

Let's all say it together,
Let's say it from the heart,
Though you're alive we declare you dead,
You were expendable from the start.

So don't try to signal us,
Don't send your photo out,
The government will say it's a forgery.
Truth is not what we're about.

I'm not sure when it happened
But the dream turned to a lie,
And as we silently pursue it
Our abandoned soldiers slowly die.

77. It's from an old English round "Good Friend"
Libana recorded it:

http://acappella.colormaria.com/1223B/1223B%5EGood_Friend.mp3

"Oh the wind, it is a song
That harbors through the winter.
Oh the sail is it a door
That bids the song to enter.
So let us sail to sea, good friend
And let us sing together
The singer lasts a season long,
But the song, it lasts forever".

I thought it was appropriate for a Viking funeral.

42. "Oh Danny boy, the pipes, the pipes are calling..."
DANNY BOY

Oh Danny boy, the pipes, the pipes are calling
From glen to glen
And down the mountainside
The summer’s gone
And all the roses falling
It’s you, it’s you must go and I must bide

But come ye back when summer’s in the meadow
Or when the valley’s hushed and white with snow
It’s I’ll be here in sunshine or in shadow
Oh Danny boy, oh Danny boy, I love you so!

But when ye come, and all the flow’rs are dying
If I am dead, as dead I well may be
Ye’ll come and find the place where I am lying
And kneel and say an Ave there for me

And I shall hear, though soft you tread above me
And all my grave will warmer, sweeter be
For you will bend and tell me that you love me
And I shall sleep in peace until you come to me...

48. Weren't you the one...
Complaining about the taxpayer subsidized health care that you received for free lately?

Turns out it was all in your head, right? You seem like a nice enough guy, but the drugs and alcohol are fucking up your head. You basically were saying your last goodbyes to the world before you went to the doctor, and it turns out your throat closing up was mental.

Maybe you should put down the 40 and Vic, and start taking care of yourself.

49. recieved for free?
hardly. I have about 5k in medical bills and my problems weren't all mental. I'm applying for medicaid that I will definitely get rejected for because my wife and I make about 16k net a year. Yes, I was sayingh my goodbyes because when you think you're dying sometimes that's what you do. I credit prayers from DU for helping more than anything, except maybe the anti anxiety medicine which helped clear things up, for putting my mind at enough ease to get some help. I guess you think I should just die along with the other 25 million uninsured in this country huh? Or go crazy? Because if my problems are just mental then they must be pretty fucking good to make my throat close up. Anyhoo thanks for trying to stomp on my buzz which is simply to tribute a lost compadre and kill a little of the pain, but you failed.

didn't mean to be a buzz-kill.

But maybe alcohol, vics, buds, and whatever meds you're on aren't the best mix.

I actually appreciate how you have opened up and put your feelings out there to the public, and I'm trying to give you a little practical advice.

The fact of the matter is, if you stopped taking all these drugs you would have a much better quality of life.

But you already knew that.

82. Alcohol and me don't mix, but........
I'll raise a glass of something along with the rest.

I'm too new around here to have known most of these people,
but losing a friend and a kindred spirit is something I can,
sadly, relate to in any case.
