I wish Paris Hilton no harm. But she needs to go to jail.
I could not help thinking that, in the end, this experience with real life (actual "real life," as opposed to the TV version of the "simple" life) could even be good for her.

People need some hardship in their lives. They need to go through things and come out stronger at the other end. And they sometimes need to be held accountable and feel the consequences of their own actions. Maturity comes from that. Redemption comes from that, too.

Hence, I don't think anyone is doing Hilton any favors by trying to win special treatment for her. Hilton should be kept safe. She should get any medical care that she needs. And she should be encourages to look upon her short prison stay as a wake-up call and a chance to take a long-hard look at herself and how she got there. I hope she has friends who will give her that encouragement.

But even if Hilton learns nothing from the jail time. Even if she goes right back to the clubs, her sentence serves one purpose: it shows that we are a nation of laws that mean something. And if that's the only result of this whole thing, I'll take it.

Hell, it's already written! :D

2. I keep thinking about a child needing a timeout
the way she reportedly has been having "nuclear fits" while in jail. When you give a child a timeout, you tell them that when they stop screaming and crying, the timeout will begin. The child finally realizes that crying and screaming aren't going to get them out of timeout so they stop. Then the time begins. Maybe they should do the same with Ms. Hilton's sentence. It's now officially time for Ms. Hilton to grow up.

3. Unfortunately, at least according to the talking heads on MSNBC, she is being treated WORSE
than is customary. Normally she wouldn't have done jail time at all, and even if she did the Sheriff would have the authority to release her to home confinement.

20. Those twits on MSNBC skipped over why the judge imposed the sentence
Paris Hilton was originally sentenced to 3 years probation, mandatory attendance at an alcohol education program and fined $1,500.

Paris Hilton violated her probation.
Failed to enroll within 21 days in the alcohol education program.
Incurred several traffic violations after receiving probation.
Traffic violations: driving in darkness without headlights, driving 70mph in a 35mph zone, driving without a driver's license.
Failing to obey all laws and orders of the court.

Those twits namely Contessa and her cohorts should zip their lips.

4. If she learns nothing, then the next repeat offense means more jail time with less protection.
Jail is meant to reform. Not to have people apathetically go "Oh well; when all this is done I've paid my debt to society and I can do it all over again and it's okay because I know what to expect."

I say none of this out of malice. Nor my Lounge thread.

people grow up.

The fact is Hilton has already spent more time in Jail
than Gangbangers in LA who did exact same offenses as
Hilton.

We are a nation of laws; but laws are supposed to be exacted
as evenly as possible. She has been oversentenced because
she is Paris Hilton. The Media are after her like a
Scarlet Woman because they have never forgiven her for
that sex tape that got onto the Internet. This is not
fair either.

she made an ASS out of HERSELF

She just NEEDED TO SUCK IT UP AND FINISH IT!!

That's all, and if it was you, they would have expected the same.

Jail is not a holiday and wasn't meant to be. Community service was applicable, BUT SHE chose to violate her probation TWICE. She pissed off the judge don't you get it!!

That's why people are supportive, laughing, making jokes or just down right pissed off.

Don' do the crime if you can't do the time.

25. I agree
I watched a movie on TV with my girl friend tonite, and at every commercial break they had a special report/news flash on Ms Hilton. Saying the same exact thing. And, big surprise here, being vague enough about some details as to tease us for future special reports in the future.

I thought to myself...how can the newscaster say that drivvel with a straight face? I was beginning to wonder if it was a parody, but it was real.

Yet here we are doing the same basic thing. Why the attention?

Maybe a bigger question is why do the media act the way we do? Because we eat it up!!!! Because we buy the tabloids on the newstand. Because we talk about it at the water fountain. Because we like gossip. And this sort of "news" is something that gives the news media ratings. And helps them sell their commercials.

Maybe we should just say no to all this foolishness?
