Onward Christian Soldiers?
OK, so I was at Hobby Lobby today with my mother....we were wandering around waiting for my dad and my two young sons to join us.

We were in an aisle that proudly announced crafts and toys for Vacation Bible School (a Midwestern tradition, not sure if you have it in other places!).

Anyway, one of the toys there was a wooden sword and shield set, yes, the junior crusader kit! It even has a cross on the shield.

I have to say that I ended up buying two sets, since my boys are really into pirates and knights right now (and I am tired of picking up pan lids and wooden spoons from my yard), but as I think about this, it seems more and more creepy.

Plus, the checkout lady mentioned that many churches are buying them for their VBS programs. Hmmmmm....training them to kill the infidels at a young age?

Or am I totally crazy and it is perfectly innocent non-creepy fun for little kids?

2. It's creepy if they understand the context.
That is all.

3. Totally Creepy
I guess those popsicle stick houses and paper chains are just not what they need to feed the frenzy of tender youth today at Bible Vacation summer school!

4. My point exactly....
Let's see, I made macaroni pictures and stuff like that and it was enough for me....but then, I wasn't a child in the "post 9/11" world.

5. Hobby Lobby is creepy anyway!
but I have gotten some good stuff there for my daughter's school projects. It is still kinda creepy though.

Isn't the Hobby Lobby owned by right wing religionists? I seem to remember my wife mentioning this when I had to go get something there one Sunday for a project. She said, "The place isn't open on Sundays. Like Chik-fil-a, the owners believe that Sunday is god's day."

Anyway...onward xtian soldiers, marching as to war!
