Who is this Sheriff Joe Arpaio of Arizona and why is he so

liked there? Listening to him tonight on CNN, I thought of the book, Pale Horse Coming, by Stephen Hunter. For those who have never read it, it's about an out of control sheriff who is nuts!

19. While I agree that prison shouldn't be a cakewalk

inhumane treatment for mild offenders, which seems to him to constitute drug and prostitution, doesn't do much for rehabilitation. Does demoralizing someone help? He's pretty twisted if he thinks that is what it's all about.

5. This is the second time I've seen that nut job on Larry King. Both times

he had the female prisoners behind him for props! The man is NUTS! King should be ashamed of himself for giving that maniac air time. This whole Hilton thing is so embarrassing....for our nation. It's all they've had on all-day-long. It's pathetic.

He is an absolute tyrant -- has been implementing tortuous conditions for prisoners in AZ for many a year -- and the people here love him damnit...

But the idiots in Maricopa County that keep re-electing him evidently love the guy. He does everything on the cheap as far as inmates are concerned, and claims to be saving the county tons of money, but for the 7 years that I lived in Arizona, and as often as we would go up to Phoenix I never saw where that savings went.

This man and Saddam are the kind of guys that would sit and brag about all the crap that they inflicted on prisoners, and laugh about it!!!

...he loves the spotlight. There's a joke here that goes "Where's the most dangerous place in AZ? Between Sheriff Joe and a TV camera!".

He uses his office to intimidate his political opponents, he's got about a gazillion dollars in civil rights lawsuits pending against him, and he's a jackass with small winkie syndrome.

He is in his late 70's and him and several of the guys that worked for him retired ,collected their pensions,over 60,000 a year and then went back to work and get at leat that much in salary.They have quite a racket going and he lives in a guarded mansion and has had so many death threats.He thinks he is all that and he is a puke
