1. Start with Romney's five military eligible sons
who obviously have "other priorities."

2. Yeah, just like it did back in the 60s, right?
Those families will be just the way they were back then, full of pious mouthings about honor, duty, and the privilege of serving one's country. They'll say whatever their preacher, Pox News, and Lamebawl tells them to say.

The only increase in antiwar fervor will be at the colleges, and they're already with us. The lumpenproletariat will simply line up, as they always do, and support their leaders.

5. I thought just having a draft was supposed to end the war quickly?
Wasn't that the point of your other thread?

6. There IS no war frenzy, and there never was. In Feb. '03, 56% of the American people
opposed the Iraq War, even before all of Colin Powell's lies to the UN were exposed. 56%! That would be a landslide in a presiential election. That number has now grown to over 70% who oppose this war and want it ended. The American people are a peace-loving, lawful and mostly progressive people. We started off with a majority against the war, and the war profiteers and fascists running this country knew that that majority would only grow as the stupidity and senseless slaughter of this corporate oil war continued. Now it's an overwhelming, massive majority. It was to defeat majority that legislation was also passed to fast-track electronic voting machines run on "trade secret," proprietary programming code, owned and controlled by rightwing Bushite corporation, in the same month as the Iraq War Resolution (October 2002). The IWR got a lot of attention. The "Help America Vote For Bush Act" occurred under the radar, but effectively gave two very rightwing and very closely related corporations (run by two brothers), Diebold and ES&S, secret control of election results, very quickly, during the 2002 to 2004 period.

The war profiteering corporate news monopolies played their part as well--24/7 warmongering, all channels, all the time, creating an illusion of majority support for the war that never existed. Then, on election night, 2004, they DOCTORED their consortium exit polls (Kerry won) to force them to fit the results of Diebold/ES&S's secret vote counting formulae (Bush won). That's what the bastards did. And all other statistics and election information corroborate a stolen election.

Further, all other polls confirm overwhelming rejection of Bush's entire fascist program, in overwhelming numbers--up in the 60% to 70% range--for more than two years now. Polls on the war. Polls on torture. Polls on women's rights. Polls on the deficit. Polls on corruption. Polls on Social Security. You name it. Including polls on Bush himself, which dropped to 49% on the very day of his second inauguration--an unprecedented low for a second term president--and then sank like the Titanic, to chronic lows in the 30% to 35% range, and have never recovered.

You ever see any big crowds out there waving flags and cheering "our boys" off to the cannon fodder pit of Iraq? You ever see anybody goosestepping to Bush, except a small minority?

It's all smoke and mirrors. So please don't slander the American people this way. We are a disempowered and disenfranchised people, who have tried repeatedly at the polls to stop this war, and have been thwarted. Now with 70+% against the war, what do they do? They ESCALATE it and shove over $100 billion more lard into the war profiteers' pockets! They thought that giving this escalation a Democratic coloration, they could shut us all up. We have TRAITORS in the Democratic Party leadership--people who don't believe in democracy, people who wanted this war and enabled this war every step of the way.

There is no frenzy for war. There is, among the vast majority of Americans, an aching, defeated, demoralized, disempowered, disenfranchised, MYSTIFIED longing for peace, and fairness and good government. Why can't we get it? Why?

7. No draft. Not for anybody.
Nothing good would come of it.
