The media is Paris sick, they are sicker with Paris than they were with Anna Nicole. Every 5 minutes, another Paris story. And it's not just the TV, the radio, print and Internet news all Paris all the time.

Now I hate to see bu$h in the news, but you would think that the President of the United States Of America meets the Pope it would be the top head line and major story. BUT! Oh no, the judge was not fair to the poor little princess Paris.

So fucked up and twisted-ly sick!

I need to just go crawl in a cave.

3. Resistance is futile.

<Resistance is futile. You can avert your eyes, cover your ears, change the channel and close your browser, but you can't escape the truth: Paris Hilton has become an omnipresent cultural icon, a symbol of the depravity of our times, and thanks to Friday's sobbing, O.J.-level arrest spectacle, she's destined to remain at the forefront of that rushing flow of global news until we're all old and gray. >

6. Or until she does her Anna Nicole style exit
Then we will only have a six more months of it after that act.

5. Who cares about Hilton?
She's rich, she went to jail, tried to get away with it, lost, went to jail again. End of story.

Has anyone noticed this?: If you watch a news channel or listen to NPR or the like and you listen to their "Headline news", 90% of the time, the very first words out of their mouth is "President Bush".

times like this give me a break from hearing that odious name at the top of the news hour

But seriously, I do not remember it being like that in the Clinton years. But I notice it, now....the very first story is always about Bush and the first WORD is always "President Bush".

A total tangent, I know.

7. The media apparently is appealing to our collective schadenfreude.
It's so rarely that we get to see the ultra-privileged being held accountable. What I think is truly sick is having as many advantages in life as Hilton has had, and _still_ finding a way to screw up. For every spoiled, irresponsible rich young person like Paris Hilton, there are jillions of poor and middle class young people who would give anything to have as many advantages as Hilton has had -- and they'd probably make much better use of those advantages.

And now, a few words from the late President John F. Kennedy:

We are people to whom much is given.
We are able, healthy, successful people,
blessed with privilege, opportunity, and intelligence.
For ourselves and for our children, the future looks like a promise.
Against this background of optimism,
our age, if it is to deliver on its promise,
will need people deeply committed to the truth,
to what works, to what is real.
This age demands of us the courage, the dignity, and the integrity
to generate behavior beyond what is merely strategic,
beyond what, according to the standards of the opinion makers of the day
is "wise and reasonable."
Our age, if it is to deliver on its promise,
needs people capable of real heroism -
not the kind of heroism which ends up in glory -
but the kind which ends up bringing out and making available
the truth, what works, what is honest and real.
Our age, if it is to deliver on its promise,
needs people who can reach beyond that which is already determined,
that which is already predictable,
that which can already be expected,
and take the lead in creating new possibility.
The demands of this age are extraordinary:
to meet them, extraordinary men and women are required.
There is no reason, no motivation, no "reward"
for which these people - and you and I - will make this age succeed.
There is just our humanity - and the stand that we are.
"Of those to whom much is given, much is required."*

John F. Kennedy in his Inaugural Address
*paraphrasing Luke 12:48

10. I know it seems that it no longer applies.
But it does. It's the way I was raised, and I can't possibly be the only one.
