Ann Coulter finally found a "victim" she can relate to:
Paris Hilton yelled, "Mom," and it was the scream heard round the world. Poor baby. Poor us -- MSNBC and Fox News Channel couldn't get enough of the heiress' return to jail Friday.

Fox News even brought in Ann Coulter, who complained that the 45-day sentence handed to Hilton was unfair, because it revealed how everyone hates Hilton. Coulter also complained that the traffic judge was trying to make a name for himself with the sentence. Enjoy the irony of that analysis: the pot-calling-the-kettle routine.

Also for Fox News, Al Sharpton said the Hilton case illustrated the need for the same standards for everyone. "This is not about Paris Hilton," Sharpton said.

<snip>

On MSNBC, Tom O'Neil said the turn of events was probably good for Hilton because now she could play the victim. Also on MSNBC, Michael Musto joked that the title of Hilton's book about her experience would be called "The Shawskank Redemption."

1. Michael Musto has used that line 100 times over since this little
debacle hit the circuit... he's annoying.

and that's all I have to say about the whole thing.

2. Never even heard of him before now.
I just think that maybe Ann Coulter is seeing her future, and that's why she's so uneasy about what's happening to Paris.

6. Is he the guy
that looks like a Big Frog, with black hair?

Because if he is, that guy isn't even remotely funny.. if he came up with this glib remark, it would be the funniest thing he's ever said in his whole life. Each time he's on Keith's show I just sit there and wonder how many people beat the shit out of him as a kid :)

Sorry, my mind just works that way.. the whole country seems to have de-evolved into a High School Glam show, Jocks, Druggies, Prom Queens, etc. :)

4. Did the
Coulteroid get off on the Felony charge? I heard last that an FBI old boyfriend stood up for her in front of a judge or something, but I don't know what the result was..

Otherwise, yeah, SHE could be getting her old GrayBar Hotel Room soon enough.. I don't think the female inmates will be as kind to Coulteroid as they are to Paris the Poor Little Rich Girl...

Anybody?

Bueller? :)

18. I heard it on Jon Steward and Randi Rhodes, too
All on the same day this week. I don't know if it's copycatting, or if it's just different people independently arriving to the same conclusion.

5. That must be the talking point
The whole media organization is bellyaching that "it is harsher than the average person would get"

She broke the law damn it, then she broke the law punishing her for breaking the law. She showed that she was not worthy of parole and she pissed the judge off by violating it then still again when she got the Sheriff to let her out.
His ass should be thrown in jail as well, he violated a judges order for god sake.

But Poor Poor Paris.

Did you know that Joint Chief Pace was replaced? Nah, there are more important things like the mistreatment of Paris.

7. If I shoplifted 20 or 30 DVD's.....
As a white, 50's female with no record, what are the chances I'd get the same sentence as a young black male with no record? The chances are slim to none that I'd get as severe a sentence as the young black man. The justice system is broken, and now we're not even trying to hide it.

10. saw that last night
yes the judge was out to prove a point but he screwed up big time. he over stepped his authority when he sentenced her to 45 days with no good time. there`s a lot of comments about somehow she deserves this because the rest of us get treated differently but i expect that everyone should be treated the same. if one looks past her "fame" she got screwed by a judge who was out to prove a point that he could`t legally make.

due to factors i have had years of experience in dealing with the court system from simple curfew violation to multiple felonies and i`m sticking to my statements

Edited on Sat Jun-09-07 09:38 AM by rocknation
and didn't complete any of the other conditions of her probation (including enrolling in an alcohol counseling program). That MIGHT have had something to do with the judge saying "No good time" as opposed to "mere" vindictiveness. And if the jail was overcrowded, couldn't some non-violent FIRST offenders been released? Most important, wasn't Paris IN the courtroom when the terms of her probation were dictated by the judge?

21. You know what people are forgetting?
In a small town, if you're a dissenter or community activist, and your spouse did what Paris Hilton did, a lot worse would happen.

22. it`s a turf war between the judge and the sheriff
if sheriff believe it`s in his and the counties best interest to throw her out he can. from what i heard he sheriff had three doctors that decided that she should be released..if he did`t release her then he and the county would have been sued...at that point at least here in illinois she would be done with her sentence.

she did a great job in conning the system and it will be interesting how long it will take for her lawyers to file motions..

26. Has there been any precedent that an inmate had been let go from
prison for the reason that Paris Hilton was let go? Or are they getting afraid because someone with big bucks and a privileged lifestyle feels that being treated like everybody else is cruel and unusual punishment?

I'd feel better about their position if I didn't hear that her grandpa donated $1000.00 to the Sheriff's campaign. That kind of says a lot.

27. Apparently, the sheriff did not have the authority to disobey the judge's orders
that Paris would not be subject to alternative sentencing. If the prison was THAT overcrowded, then offenders who were under no such explicit orders should have been let go. And if Paris were THAT sick, she should have been transferred to the appropriate medical facility. By the way, do ALL the sheriff's prisoners get a three-doctor evaluation when they're admitted?

15. "The Shawskank Repimption."
I'd buy that!

I've seen normal, every day, people do six months in the county jail here in West Bye Gawd Virginia for driving without a license after having a DUI. I've seen drunken drivers go out and kill other people on the road, before they ever got their first DUI too. I've seen people go up for life on the three strikes thing, for drunken driving cases, when other people have been hurt or killed, because of that drunken driver's selfish ignorance. Nipping Paris in the "Bud," IMHO, might not be a bad idea. It might even save her own life some day!
