Washington "Mad as Hell" Over 'Grey's Anatomy' Firing
http://imdb.com/news/wenn/2007-06-08/

Isaiah Washington is "mad as hell" after learning he was fired from hit U.S. medical drama Grey's Anatomy. The troubled actor's future on the show has been in doubt ever since he made a homophobic remark about castmate T.R. Knight last October - a comment he repeated at the Golden Globe Awards earlier this year. And at the end of season three his character, Dr. Preston Burke, was seen packing his bags on the cliffhanger finale. Washington's spokesperson Howard Bragman confirmed his client had received a call from the show's creator Shonda Rimes informing the actor that he was "not invited back to the show next season", and the 43-year-old star today released a statement addressing the situation. In the statement, he simply says, "I'm mad as hell, and I'm not going to take it anymore."

I didn't think this belonged in LBN, but the topic is newsworthy in that someone is being held accountable for using bigoted remarks against another person, once on a closed set and once on an Awards show interview.

11. Interesting tidbit there. Maybe his previous role made him
fearful of being stigmatized and defensive about homosexuals?

(Ironically, Washington had played a gay man struggling with homophobia in Spike Lee's Get On the Bus.)

27. Type-casting and Method acting are like tongue and groove.
 I'd guess the attitude came before the role.

Prejudice is one thing, but you shouldn't out a homosexual unless you want a fight.

I liked him in Out of Sight, though. I guess it's easy for him to play a thug.

23. Isiah has had some good
parts..he was excellent in True Crime with Clint Eastwood. I was really sorry to hear of this weird shit coming from him concerning his co-star on Grey's Anatomy(which I do not watch).

often for no reason at all.

12. Rachael Dratch was removed from a larger role on 30 Rock because she wasn't "attractive enough."
That sucks. I could care less the attractiveness of someone if they're awesome in their role.

However, removing someone who has caused tension at the workplace, bad press and has used bigoted remarks against others is a fine reason to give someone their walking papers.

15. I thought the story line between him and his girlfriend was a bit
strained. Considering that they had overcome bigger obstacles in their fictional relationship, the reason he moves out of HIS apartment, not hers, didn't seem credible. Now I know why.

16. Cardiac/Thoracic surgeons are the kings of the hospital too.
The rainmakers bar none. In real life once they are established at a hospital, it would be very unusual for one to leave.

I wonder how they are going to explain his sudden disappearance. He packs in an emotional huff, goes on vacation and... dies? He packs in an emotional huff and drives like an emotional basketcase and... dies?

I mean, his whole persona is based on being super in control - no emotional craziness.

Regardless, he had to go. What an ass.
