it's not just Dems who "get it" about Iraq.

Could he push a top tier candidate to the right direction?

1. ooooo, are we seeing a candidate dividing the Pubs?
Although I agree with RP on some of the things he says, I would never vote for him because he also has some very bad positions on social programs. But it sure is GREAT to hear he's got so much support! Mittens, Rotten Rudy, and Weathervein McCain muct be really pissed at him!

4. I wonder if his answer to the morality issue question has garnered interest in him
This recent fundraising should get him more interviews on the circuit.

10. The question: What's the major moral problem facing the country
His answer was that we waged a preemptive war against a country that wasn't a danger to us. And we have to come to terms with where we are at with this wrong and correct it. I think he also talked about the constitution in relation to this.

Find the transcript since his answer was sensible. It must have had the other candidates' heads exploding. And now that he's raising the cash I'm curious if it will soften their collective "terror tone". I'm confident that his success with the public is curling hair.

17. When would Dems vote for him? In the Republican primary? Unless he, by some miracle wins THAT,
I think your fears are unfounded.

I sincerely doubt that the Repug party machine would tolerate his winning the Republican primary -- which is the only way (unless he decides to run as a third party candidate) that he would be the Republican candidate in the General election, and thus available to siphon off Democratic votes.

My basis for hoping that he makes a good showing is not that I think he would have a snowball's chance in hell of winning the Republican nomination, but that a strong showing of popular support for a non-interventionalist foreign policy might at least give pause to the proponents of U.S. Imperialism in BOTH parties.

If he DID become the Republican nominee, and the Dems somehow manage to be unable to defeat RON PAUL, for gawdsakes, then the Party damn well better take a long hard look at itself and what they stand for.

16. As a Texan, I'm thrilled Ron Paul is running. Once upon a time, Repubs at least gave lip service to
small government, the federal government not interfering with states' governing authority, balanced budgets, keeping the government's nose out of the people's business, eschewing any foreign policy that has the whiff of nation-building ...

Ron Paul is the only Repub candidate that supports these ideas (of course, he's also batshit crazy, but that's another topic). I see nothing but good coming from a true conservative like Paul (ok, maybe more of a loony/conservative hybrid than a "true conservative") running in their primary and reminding the Repub voters that the only candidate who espouses conservative views beyond unregulated gun ownership and outlawed abortions is ridiculed as a buffoon by the other 10 candidates.

With regard to your thought that both Democrats and Repubs will both vote for Paul, I say let them. We will pick better nominees from the top of the ballot all the way down if the type of voters who would skip the Democratic primary to vote for Paul in the Repub primary don't participate in our primary.
