Meet the Press will be early in the East today due to the French Open |
|
It will have Colin Powell and the authors of the new Hillary Clinton book on. Just giving a heads up. It runs at 8am here this week.

1. Ever since it was turned over to Tim Russert |
|
MTP hasn't been a valid news show, no matter what time slot they give it.

I used to watch whoever it was. On edit it was Garrick Utley preceeded by Chris Wallace. I might have watched some with Kalb but probably no one else.

13. According to an NAB article: |
|
"Russert is in his 16th year as moderator and host of the show and is the ninth person to serve as permanent host. Russert also serves as senior vice president and Washington bureau chief of NBC News. Prior to Russert, the show’s moderators include Martha Rountree, Ned Brooks, Lawrence E. Spivak, Bill Monroe, Marvin Kalb, Roger Mudd, Chris Wallace and Garrick Utley."
Larry Spivak was there for ages, from 1947 to 1975. He created it originally as a radio show. My dad was on several times when Spivak was host. In those days, there were always three journalists, always from the print media (my dad was a print journalist for a paper in a small town in upstate NY), who posed questions to the politico guest. Spivak hosted and asked questions as well. The three journalists changed every week, which was very refreshing as opposed to the current form of the Tim Russert ego-show.
My dad knew Tim Russert when he was part of Pat Moynihan's team in Buffalo. Russert soured on Bill Clinton for the Monica affair. Russert is a devout Catholic who was down on Clinton for having sinned. Believe it or not, Russert claims that the Jesuits at his Catholic high school in Buffalo "encouraged free inquiry and challenging established ideas," according to James Ostrowski, also from Buffalo. Ostrowski also notes that there has been no evidence that Russert has "taken that lesson to heart."
From what I've seen of Russert in the last few years, I'd say that Ostrowski's observation is still valid.

16. Why would the Obama team even want to talk to Powell for a reason other than he's black? |
|
Powell's thoroughly disgraced himself these past six years.
Obama's campaign shouldn't touch him with a ten foot pole.

17. Good question. It would serve not to help Powell and WOULD serve to hurt Obama. |
|
Powell is a liar (indeed, a perjurer) for Bushco.
WTH is ANY Democrat doing talking with him??

Obama thinks the anti-war boomers and the pro-war boomers drive political debate to this day from the positions they took back in the 60s and he admonishes the early boomers to knock it off. Now he pals up with the guy who began his career by covering up My Lia. On so many levels Obama just doesn't get it. What was evil/wrong back then is evil and wrong today.
I have not made a choice for the Presidential primary but I just decided there is one candidate I will definitely not support.

An incredibly long amount of air time given over to McCAIN as the sole guest. Then a round table that... nevermind. And then the lamest-ever "funnies," featuring the Faux rip-off of TDS that... Nevermind. Just nevermind.
