IGTNT: His Biggest Fear Was “Not coming back from Iraq”
by monkeybiz
Fri Jun 08, 2007 at 01:23:48 PM PDT

Tyler Kritz was a quiet kid. He loved his dogs. He wanted to join the military. His biggest fear was that he wouldn’t make it back from Iraq.

He didn’t.

Look at him. Listen to what he thought about his mission: "Iraq will be a free and democratic society, which, in turn, should stabilize the whole middle east for a free, more stable earth as we know it—and after that happens, maybe we can buy everybody in the world a puppy." I can’t stop thinking about how gentle he looks in this photograph, and how sudden and violent his death -- wounds caused by an IED -- might have been.

1. Damn...just damn.
 He's my age...and yet older than so many other who have been killed over there. That puppy statement just kills me - he sounds like such a great guy. RIP, Sgt. Kritz. :patriot:

2. My heart continues
to weep for each and every one of our fallen soldiers and their families. They truly are the ones making the biggest sacrifice!

4. That Picture, Oh Words Escape Me, Just, That Picture. . . .
I've thought before about a not-so-mini series, where each and every soldier who has died as a result of this conflict, will have an hour-long biography (A & E style?) dedicated to their life. So far, it looks like it'll be a 3,500+ hour long "mini" series. I wish like hell it would stop there.
RIP Sgt. Kritz.

5. Yes, it hit me - the quote even more than the pic
I was updating my website this morning, looking for pics of those I do not yet have.

There are more and more of the newspaper articles that quote the families as saying "he no longer believed in what he was doing" "he just wanted to get out of there" etc.

This kid had a clock on his Myspace page counting the days/hours minutes that he'd been in Iraq. He was in his 12th month. I bet it was a countdown clock until he would go home, and he changed it when they started extending tours - now none of them have any idea when/if they'll get out of there.

7. Eagle River Is About 80 Miles North Of Here
I plan to be "upnorth" in Eagle River next weekend. Maybe I should take some time to learn about this fine young man.

6. The very high cost of this war
The fact that we have spent over a half trillion dollars in this elective war initiated with lies is one thing.

The human cost hurts more.

12. Eagle River is like a lot
of the rest of Wisconsin....it's a place where they still have values and trust in the a community where you don't have to lock your doors at night and where people go into a store and leave their cars unlocked and running outside...

In a sense none of us could bring ourselves to believe that our President would lie us into war...that's unthinkable because none of us have ever known somebody who could be that dishonest....so no matter how big the lie...we teneded to believe it.

Tyler believed in goodness.

I'm blinded by tears.
