MONTREAL -- Rookie Lewis Hamilton won the Canadian Grand Prix on Sunday, the first victory for a black driver in Formula One.

In a race filled with caution flags, the 22-year-old Englishman won in his sixth F1 start and now has six consecutive top-three finishes.

"I'm just having a fantastic day," Hamilton said. "This is history."

The only one to give the Mercedes McLaren driver any competition during the 70-lap race on Circuit Gilles Villeneuve's 2.71-mile road course was BMW Sauber's Nick Heidfeld. He chased Hamilton all day without catching him. Hamilton beat Heidfeld to the finish by 4.3 seconds.

1. Schumacher's retirement is the best thing to happen to F1. Finally, some excitement.

2. He would have smoked Schumacher anyway
Hamilton's just flat out great. Plus the McLaren is just a faster car than the Ferrari this year (this race at least).

3. We may get a chance to find out...
rumor has it that Schumi may step in to replace the less-than-stellar Kimi Raikkonen.

4. NO WAY will MS un-retire! Hamilton is a phenom driver, and Schumi would be a fool

to test his age, reputation, and Ferrari against him.
M-M is the better team this year, and will win both the driver and manufacturer titles.
Alonso might be a tad p.o'ed, though. Heh.

And next year, Lewis will know all the tracks. :)

6. Also the worst crash in quite some time

Kubica smacked that wall at 180+mph and escaped with only a concussion and sprained ankle. Word is he'll be out of hospital tomorrow and might even be fit to race at Indianapolis next weekend (hubby and I will be there, it's our first F1 in person). Are those cars amazingly well built or is Kubica one lucky lad? Little of both?

Kudos to LH on the win!

7. When I saw that, I knew that either he was dead in the car, or the HANS device is a miracle-worker.

I was so relieved to find that it was the latter.

And very happy for Lewis Hamilton on his win. He's going to be fun to watch.
