It's quite obvious that America is in a state of deep unhappiness.

The war in Iraq is a huge part of that. The knowledge that a vast majority of the world dislikes American policy and would take joy in American failure is also a part of that.

I'm nut suggesting that security and protection aren't critical, but if the war in Iraq held up as something that has enahnced US security (right or wrong), then was it worth it?

Quite obviously not.

The USA is a nation mentally sick over these events. It has caused such an unhappy undercurrent...such an angst accross party lines, that one could argue it's the single most destructive thing to hit American society in history.

People are stressed and unhappy. And Bush is the reason.

And the knowledge that their leader is standing in the way of global warming action; thereby condemning the world to a future of much worse climate change and resulting species loss, is also upsetting people.
Those who have not been fooled by the campaign of deception and downplaying that the Bush admin have been a part of certainly feel disheartened and depressed by this event also.

The USA is a spiritted and resiliant nation, but at the moment I sense it is profoundly depressed. This depression is directly tied to it's current executive leadership and it's determination to do what it wants, regardless of consequence.

2. Fear is the mother's milk of politicians and the "defense" industry.
The war in Iraq, and the many "little" conflicts that we've engendered in the so called "cold war" that killed millions have given us neither "protection" nor "security".

“The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary.” H.L. Mencken

7. We've been betrayed by W and our government.
We're hated by the world. Our standard of living, except for the wealthy, has been going down, down, down.

W wages war without consideration of the costs while we can't help our own needy.

The Great American Dream no longer exists. The deck is stacked against us.

8. Here's my whole argument to * keeping us safe.
He does not keep us safe.

Why?

Because we have no national health plan.

This means that probably hundreds of thousands of our fellow citizens literally DIE each year due to lack of health care caused by lack of medical insurance.

Keeping us safe? What bullshit.
