Our minister made an interesting observation and statement
the other day when I was working on something with her. Let me preface with saying it's a pretty liberal church, so it's not totally strange, she just sounded so exhausted and exasperated at the current situation. We were talking about politics a bit and how TV never covers the important stuff. She said her daughters think she's nuts because she's actually said out loud that "If all this stuff about the end of the world and rapture that the repubs keep preaching is real, I almost wish it would get over and done with because this old girl's getting tired of fighting them tooth and nail. I know where I'm going if/when it happens, but this going to hell in a handbasket side trip is getting me down. Nothing seems to really have any impact anyway. We have to be able to support our own AND wage a uphill offensive against the criminality that has ahold of our Country. This is not what our forefathers envisioned. It's like we're on a never-ending merry-go-round ride. We have the brass ring in our sight, we reach for it, but we keep missing or falling off our darned horse."

I just thought it was so NOW and wanted to pass it along. Apparently her girls (in their 20s) didn't think a minister should feel that way - the tired and giving up part. I told her about DU and that there are plenty of us out here to 'pick her back up again' when she needs to renew herself to 'get back on that horse'.

1. uh-oh! A minister who deeply gets "spirituality!"
and what it moves us to do. Dangerous, indeed. (As the king-decrying prophets generally found out...)

;-)

5. Good post. In a way this makes me feel better, because I
know I feel that way on occasion with this evil crew, but to come from a minister makes my anger and angst a bit more tolerable, forgiveable, understandable, etc.

7. i'd say
not feeling this way would be more disturbing- to me... (but i'm admittedly weird)-
Being a minister doesn't change our being human do you think? If anything, she likely sees some of the more painful results of what this screwed up world is doing to people- people who often are struggling just to get by as it is.

I'd say your Minister is doing ok- more than ok, because she isn't living in a make believe world- and has a pretty good 'role model' to follow.-
When John the Baptist was beheaded, Jesus didn't smile and say "oh, that's ok- no biggie, he's gone to a better place"- He is said to have taken the disciples and gone to a place where they could be alone and come to terms with this sad, spite filled act.
And with Mary and Martha, he didn't just tell them to suck it up- or make excuses, he is said to have wept when he saw their sorrow, and heard what had happened to Lazarus- before he got there.-

I'm glad your Minister felt free to be vulnerable with you- and that you could hear her, and offer HER encouragement and support- And that you responded as you did.

We are all just people, trying to get through this strange and difficult journey-
peace to you- and to us all,
blu
