Specter saying the way to deal with Gonzales is to Impeach and that he already has lost Confidence
Edited on Mon Jun-11-07 02:54 PM by KoKo01
in Gonzo so the Dems are just doing a "political stunt." He said there are those on his "side of the aisle who agree with him" (leading one to believe that there are enough votes to Impeach but not to to go to Vote to Censure Gonzo).

So my question is what are our Democrats doing? If Specter says the way to deal with Gonzo is impeachment and the votes are there...they why aren't Dems going straight for Impeachment rather than Censure?

Given our experience with Specter it could be he's lying and that there aren't votes for Impeachment but why does he keep repeating that he already has NO Confidence in Gonzo along with his fellow Dems?

I have to say I worry about why we Dems are going through this if they are just going to have to repeat it if they don't win the votes to vote on Censure.

The Media is going to have a field day quoting Specter that this is all political as Specter says "to play a game of gotcha soundbytes for the 2008 Election"....but on the other hand why would Specter say that about Censure Vote if instead he prefers Impeachment. Have Dems figured that he's playing a game that he won't vote for censure or Impeachment and that's why they are rushing this forward?

 I hope to hell our Dems are playing a clever game on this...but Specter's comments are worrysome that we are going to take more shit for a failed vote.

3. If Repukes were truly insidious, they would decide to impeach George.
In a surprise move. Imagine what kind of position that would put Dems in.

5. DiFi is up now going through all Gonzo's lies and the corruption ....why?
Edited on Mon Jun-11-07 02:46 PM by KoKo01
If she thinks the Media will report this tonight on the news...THEY WON'T ...they will just report Specter and others comments about Witch Hunt by Dems. Fienstein isn't going to convince any Repugs and we out hear already KNOW ALL THIS...so who is she talking to?

The whole thing is bizarre if they don't have the votes. But, I have to hope there's some method to this.

6. Oh yeah Spectoer is the guy who didn't even have the guts to vote No during the Clinton Inquisi...
Oooops I mean impeachment. Hevoted Not proven. Some kind of Scotish law mumbo jumbo. He never has the guts to do the right thing at the right time. He is the ultimate equivicator. Don't count on him for anything except blustering about something being so bad and then doing absolutely nothng about it!

8. Maybe its a lead-up activity for the '08 election...
puts the Republicans on record of supporting Gonzales and his actions. It ties them in with "caging voters."

If I were the Republicans, I would vote to impeach Cheney*, then let Bush* appoint a new vice-president, who could then run for president as an insider!

11. The GOP will NOT be on record directly supporting Gonzo...
... because they will be voting against cloture and thus avoid the vote all together. We know it's the same thing but try to explain that to Joe Average.

9. Neither TPM or Firedoglake are following this.....odd. Maybe it's a done deal...DOA
 I keep looking around for mention of Senate Voting on Censure and only finding articles from earlier today saying they don't have enough votes.

10. If my understanding of the Constitution is correct...
The Repugs can filibuster the "No Confidence" vote. But if Gonzo is impeached, the House votes to impeach, and then the Senate votes on conviction. The are no amendments or other games the Senate can play.

I don't trust Specter at all, so who knows what he's up to.

12. If impeachment was imminent for Gonzo Specter would be saying the opposite....
... that we should censure, not impeach. He's all about sounding tough while doing nothing.

13. I see the censure vote as a way of taking a straw poll on impeachment,
which should immediately follow (like within the next week!) if Gonzo doesn't resign by then.

14. I think a lot of the Repukes are going to shock everyone
and vote to censure and then IMPEACH Gonzales. Nobody can defend him at this point, and they need to distance themselves from Bush if ANY of them has any hopes of getting re-elected ever again. Impeaching Gonzales is a relatively quick and painless way of doing it.

The only reason they might balk is if enough of them are so corrupt they NEED a corrupt attorney general to keep their asses out of prison, just like Bush, Cheney and Rove.
