Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't it Clinton in office during the Kosovo intervention
I thought that happened during the mid-90s when the US was part of the NATO forces that went into Kosovo to stop the ethnic cleansing of the Albanians living in that country.

So why is the press treating Bush like he's some sort of Albanian heros. When did Bush do anything with Kosovo/Albania.

1. Bush was on record as vehemently opposing Clinton's actions.
The Albanians are sucking up to Bush because they breed a lot of terrorists.

3. I don't think they are expressing their love for * but for America
They named a street after Clinton and are erecting a statue of him there.

4. So why is the media treating it like Bush is the big hero
I read a story about this on Sunday about how popular Bush was in Albania and buried within the article was a fact about how there are a high number of Albania babies named Bill or Hillary.

7. Why is the media pretending that * is a hero in Albania?
It's the first time they've ever been able to report this with any kind of plausibility. The media is sucking up to the chimp. I'll bet that the European media is reporting chimp's visit somewhat differently.

16. They like Americans. Period.
Probably because they were isolated from the world for so long, they never got screwed by America.

They probably like blue jeans, Miller Light and Disney.

And no American ever stole their resources, tried to kill their leader or devalue their currency.

They say that every US president, from Truman onwards, has been idolized by Albanians.

Why, exactly? Who knows?

Why do the French consider Jerry Lewis to be a genius?

6. Clinton was no hero for us in Kosovo:
Read the following from Michael Parenti:

http://www.michaelparenti.org/yugoslavia.html

In 1999, the U.S. national security state — which has been involved throughout the world in subversion, sabotage, terrorism, torture, drug trafficking, and death squads — launched round-the-clock aerial attacks against Yugoslavia for 78 days, dropping 20,000 tons of bombs and killing thousands of women, children, and men. All this was done out of humanitarian concern for Albanians in Kosovo. Or so we were asked to believe. In the span of a few months, President Clinton bombed four countries: Sudan, Afghanistan, Iraq repeatedly, and Yugoslavia massively. At the same time, the U.S. was involved in proxy wars in Angola, Mexico (Chiapas), Colombia, East Timor, and various other places. And U.S. forces are deployed on every continent and ocean, with some 300 major overseas support bases — all in the name of peace, democracy, national security, and humanitarianism.

While showing themselves ready and willing to bomb Yugoslavia on behalf of an ostensibly oppressed minority in Kosovo, U.S. leaders have made no moves against the Czech Republic for its mistreatment of the Romany people (gypsies), or Britain for oppressing the Catholic minority in Northern Ireland, or the Hutu for the mass murder of a half million Tutsi in Rwanda — not to mention the French who were complicit in that massacre. Nor have U.S. leaders considered launching “humanitarian bombings” against the Turkish people for what their leaders have done to the Kurds, or the Indonesian people because their generals killed over 200,000 East Timorese and were continuing such slaughter through the summer of 1999, or the Guatemalans for the Guatemalan military’s systematic extermination of tens of thousands of Mayan villagers. In such cases, U.S. leaders not only tolerated such atrocities but were actively complicit with the perpetrators — who usually happened to be faithful client-state allies dedicated to helping Washington make the world safe for the Fortune 500.

Why then did U.S. leaders wage an unrestrainedly murderous assault upon Yugoslavia?

18. I don't know who Parenti is, but from what I read he is a liar.
I don't know what his agenda is, but from the opening words you quoted it is a gross misrepresentation of the truth. If he lied so much in his introduction, I see no reason to read the rest of his lies.

I remember what happened. And it was NOTHING like he represents. He is obviously a shill and a fraud.

13. Thank you very much for posting this link! I hope people read the article.
Years ago on DU, I made some attempts to break through the propaganda fog here about the true criminal nature of the bombing of Yugoslavia, but it was all but impossible.

The "humanitarian intervention" cover story had effectively suckered nearly everybody. It's always good to run into someone who understands what a ghastly crock of shit it is.

17. That piece seems to lump a lot of separate events together.
It looks like a classic "hit piece" to me. For gawd's sake, it clumps the bombing of Iraq in with all of these other separate events when Clinton's bombing of Iraq is WHY the UN inspector's couldn't find Saddam's WMD programs. Because Clinton bombed the hell out of them! WITHOUT going to war with the whole country!

Once again, "It's the fault of the Clenis!"

I am so tired of right-wing revisionist history. I don't care what you print in the Ministry of Truth! I was THERE! I remember what happened!

11. And the Repukes were bitchin and moaning the whole time
Edited on Mon Jun-11-07 05:20 PM by RamboLiberal
Found this on their statements at the time.

Then-GOP Presidential candidate Governor George W. Bush: According to the Houston Chronicle:
“Bush, in Austin, criticized President Clinton’s administration for not doing enough to enunciate a goal
for the Kosovo military action and indicated the bombing campaign might not be a tough enough
response. ‘Victory means exit strategy, and it's important for the president to explain to us what the exit
strategy is,’ Bush said.”

Then-House Majority Whip Tom Delay (R-TX): “Mr. Speaker, this is a very difficult speech for me to
give, because I normally, and I still do, support our military and the fine work that they are doing. But I
cannot support a failed foreign policy. … But before we get deeper embroiled into this Balkan quagmire,
I think that an assessment has to be made of the Kosovo policy so far. President Clinton has never
explained to the American people why he was involving the U.S. military in a civil war in a sovereign
nation, other than to say it is for humanitarian reasons, a new military/foreign policy precedent. … Was it
worth it to stay in Vietnam to save face? What good has been accomplished so far? Absolutely nothing.”
