7. That's precisely why I am baffled by DU's continued love affair with Obama in particular
I want one Obama supporter to defend his non-vote today.

If it were Hillary Clinton not voting, she would be getting crucified here on DU. I'm sure the Obama apologists will make up some excuse for him though.

14. Get a grip all... it's obvious the votes were counted and all agreed
ahead of time that the R's not voting would offset the D's not voting. I don't agree with it and it certainly would have helped Obama with his progressive cred but that's how the Senate often works. There were not enough votes available so it really doesn't matter much who voted except symbolically...and, as I said, I would have advised Obama to make the statement. I call it an error in judgment but not fatal on an entirely symbolic vote.
Biden has no cred with progressives anyway so that doesn't matter and Dodd is so much a member of the "old boys club" that it might not have occurred to him that those of us outside the "club" might be appalled.

15. I'm sorry, but your post does nothing to explain to me why Obama and Biden
couldn't find the time to even weigh in on this issue.

From here on out, Obama and Biden don't even need to utter the name "Alberto Gonzalez" when they go out on the campaign trail or one of the Sunday talking heads shows. If they couldn't find the time to vote yea or nay on whether to move the resolution to a full debate in the Senate, then they have no credibility if they speak out against Gonzales from this day forward.

18. Um...because they were out of town and it wasn't an important vote?
Which it wasn't. Everyone knows what it was...non-binding political grandstanding to embarrass Bush (which I applaud)... the political effect was the same whether it was 53 votes or 56. This was not the Civil Rights Act of 1964 or the IWR.

19. Oh come on! It wasn't an important vote? You must be joking!
You mean to tell me it wasn't an important vote to say whether or note the Senate should proceed to a no-confidence vote on the Attorney General of the United States?

10. I guess they are too busy sucking at the money teat to do their jobs
Imagine if just 4 more senators had voted y instead of N, the whole thing would have been on their shoulders.

It's not like Biden and Dodd have a hope in hell of winning the nom anyway. And I am getting more disenchanted with Obama as time goes on. I guess I will get some post saying "who cares what you think?" from a troll next.

16. on my Landrieau and the Nelson's. Is the following scenario
plausible: Repubs knew that Obama, Dodd, Biden were missing in action - had they been prone to vote yes, why would they have done it knowing how the vote was going to come out. They pick up more money from the RNC and foundations for voitng no?
