Republics cut and ran from Gonzo vote
the republic were afraid to go on public record on Gonzo- they essentially cut and ran to sit on the fence.

if they 'support' Gonzo so much, they wouldn't be afraid to vote on the actual resolution.

or they could have introduced their own resolution for an up/down vote in support of Gonzo.

Schumer pointed out in his remarks that of all the republics who stood up to speak, only Hatch actually said he supports Gonzo. None of the other republics indicated any direct support for gonzo and their remarks were centered around talking points designed to divert/re-frame the debate.

2. You are right but the sickening truth is that most Americans
have not understood how this stinking mess affects them personally, or they just plaine old don't know about it.

3. I somehow doubt that...

but what do I know?

The Newsweek pundit Howard Fineman was on Countdown last night and said much the same thing. I thought it was condescending and insulting.

Now I grant that much of the news is about dreck, and it does get watched, but I don't know that anyone has a means of getting into the heads of "the average American" and determining whether they are as vacuous as the snobs like Fineman say they are. I think its a self-fulfilling prophecy. Fineman decides Gonzales gutting of the foundation of our government is no big deal, so he says thats what the people thing so dismisses the story...

edit: or, equally probable, I suppose: he's right

5. I think that there are far more people interested in what is going on
with Paris Hilton than Gonzo or Scooter.

6. Yep
:)

I would venture to guess that the majority of Americans have no idea who Gonzo and Scooter are. Especially when the news is all about Paris Hilton. Not much time to squeeze in anything else :(

4. The white house reaction should be great
talking about the rousing endorsement of Gonzo by the senate. No condemnation, so he must be loved.

Did Schumer know this was going to fail, or did the failure surprise him?

8. don't think it surprised him
works for the dems because now the republics OWN gonzo and bush and cheney and the whole stinking mess, plus this leaves the dems free to cast "asparagus" at gonzo

7. An interesting case in point is Sen Coburn (R-Ok) who had
actually told Gonzo to his face that he ought to resign. How did Coburn vote? Not present.
