80's research and todays reality?
The post comparing DU to Charlie Brown and the football brought this up again and I thought I would share in case we can all benefit from the story. The successful resistance inside the occupied co8countires to Hitlers forces was passive/aggressive loosely organized individuals. Perhaps we can learn from them.

About 1988 while waiting until Clinton got in office so I could get Disability, I had to go on AFDC to survive. I was awake only 4 hours a day and in horrible pain with undiagnosed Lyme Disease, MS, and many, many complications including depression from being so sick but undiagnosed (until 1990) for years and losing everything.

I was offered a hundred dollars to participate in a research study by the US Govt. I do not recall which agency. with no strings that would not affect AFDC, and believe me a $10 gift would affect AFDC to participate in a study about depressed mothers and their children. My oldest son then age 10 also participated.

One part of the test that raised my hackles involved a game, throwing beanbags through a target. The rules were explained and I was told that we decided when we stopped playing was over. The first game followed the rules. The second game the researcher/scorer started arbitrarily scoring. When I protested for my sons score she said I was mistaken he had not made points.
I played a few more times and then stated that I was going to quit that I was fatigued which was true but I told my son that I thought that the "game" was not legitimate but that I might be wrong and that if he was enjoying himself he should continue. He tried two more times and quit also.

The pollutions on both sides of the aisle are playing this game with us. I quit playing this game just before the 2004 election and am thinking outside the box for my wellbeing. I support candidates. I support issues and I actively work against the politicians who are still playing this losing game with our lives.

1. I had Lymes Disease.
Tough stuff. I too am tired of playing games where the rules keep changing. But what do I do?
