And that, my friends, is how the news and life pretty much goes.
We want real news, and sometimes we get it - until someone comes along to distract us with something not quite as bad as the real world. We want a steak dinner but on the drive home we see an In-N-Out burger joint and swing in for a quick bite - and by the time we get home we ate the cheeseburger, fries, and washed it down with a chocolate malt (speaking of which, there is an In-N-Out near my house...)
We want both news and entertainment, and sometimes the news is so crappy we are more than happy to eat up the entertainment part. We see the news as being the same today as it was when we were younger - corruption, murder, greed, corporate bullshit, lying politicians, etc. Hell, I could write the news for the next ten years and be proclaimed a prophet. Only the names change.
It's like reading the book of revelation time and again and then realizing there are 65 other books in the bible.
It is useless to fight it - the many will always be this way. BUT we can toss an in-n-out burger joint on the highway of life via the internet, and while people are surfing for their steak we might just pull em in for a quick bite that fills em up on the way to their 'home' news sources (fux, abc/et al).
And eventually, maybe they will stop by our many outlets more than they eat at home and get fat on the news that most affects their life. Or maybe they will just go home, cook on the grill, and watch the same shit everyday.
And maybe, just maybe, it is not so bad to have both - it may help to keep us sane in a crazy world.
