-multi-agency task forces/cooperation/communication
-free speech zones
-9/11 and katrina as live test exercises. katrina was a boon to police statists in all levels of government. emergency management types learned a great deal about how to use technologies to move, track, and encamp masses of people.
-need i mention the Patriot Act?
-police "discretion" more and more likely to end your ass up in jail. police discretion was what got you a warning or an actual "catch and release" if you were caught with drugs/drunk driving/violating noise ordinances at one time.
-militarization of the police.
-the highest levels of governmental power colluding with corporations and wealth pretty much transparently/publicly and with little or no effective protest or opposition. god only knows what they do behind the scenes.
can the feudal state be rolled back?
would anybody or any group of persons willingly relinquish that much power, control, and wealth?

2. It's been unique kind of hell knowing this was going to happen back in 2000 |

and then, despite all my best efforts to stop it, powerlessly watch it all unfold.

have always been there, wwII was an excellent example, but there was at least the ILLUSION that we were free or at least better than the axis powers we were fighting.
i'm not of the persuasion that it was better in the past, but it seems more and more the control the government has over us is more in your face. more like, comply or face the consequences and there is nothing you can do about it.

5. Anyone who saw and understood what these thugs did in Florida, 2000 |

could see what they had in mind.
You don't go through all that trouble (and pull off all the well organized dirty tricks to subvert the democratic process) to grab power if you don't have some dark ulterior motive.
By the 2000 election, the illusion of freedom, as Frank Zappa pointed out in the '70s, was no longer profitable for those who wield real power in this country, so they did away with it...
"The illusion of freedom will continue as long as it's profitable to continue the illusion. At the point where the illusion becomes too expensive to maintain, they will just take down the scenery, they will pull back the curtains, they will move the tables and chairs out of the way, and you will see the brick wall at the back of the theatre."

There seems to be a pattern of lock 'em up, turn 'em loose, don't charge them. Just hassle protesters. Happened in Tulsa a few weeks ago when cheyney was in town. None of the prosecution witnesses showed up to testify in charges that protesters had crossed a 'line' and become a threat.
