That's the beauty of a politically-motivated investigation. It gives both sides the perfect opportunity to establish the FACTS, to throw light on any unsubstantiated smears. It happened with the Starr and Clinton Special Prosecutor enquiry. Starr and his Republican cronies were held up to the contempt of the whole world, not because they were partisan, but because they were dishonestly partisan, incompetently partisan - nay cretinously partisan. That's the beauty of partisan-inspired investigations. They can go either way. According to where the truth lies.

So a good proportion of the insensate verbiage emanating from the neocons was utter, utter waffle and obscurantist bullshit.
