What are the 'lessons' of 9-11 & hurricane Katrina?
bush and the repubs have talked us to death with the 'lessons of nine eleven' ad nauseum, I see the two disasters as book ends to bush's first 6 years.

What have these two American disasters taught us?

4. American citizens are expendable...
if they stand in the way of what the rich and the powerful want. It's been that way since the beginning though, this is nothing new.

5. That the US government has been hijacked by
an evil cartel complicit in crimes against humanity and aided by a corrupt media that forcefeeds meaningless crap to the American people to keep them simultaneously ignorant and fearful.

7. GW Bush as a president has failed us as a nation in times of crisis.
I made this statement back in 2000 when I has having a terrible argument with my brother about why I was voting for Gore.

I felt that looking at Bush's track record, he was too lightweight and didn't have the life experiences or the "gravitas" to assume the responsibilities of POTUS.

I pointed out "...my biggest fear is this: Bush as a President will fail us as a nation in a time of crisis..." Unfortunately, I've been proven correct, not just once (9/11) but at least 2 more times (blundering into Iraq and Hurricane Katrina)

Since then, there is a "sibling's agreement" between my brother and myself (enforced by my mother) to not discuss politics. So far, this has held, but I've told my mother the next time he disparages my liberal or Democratic values, he's going to get it from me with my fist in his mouth and a broomstick up his ass.

He's been very quiet as of late - I guess he can't bring himself to admit that his younger sibling (me) has been right and that he's been wrong.

9. Amazingly, there are still those who buy into the
myth that chimp was somehow "heroic" on 9/11. I had a repuke once tell me, "You may not like Bush, but you have to admit you were glad he was President on 9/11." I laughed out loud and asked how continuing to read a children's book after being told America was under attack and then flying aimlessly around the country qualifies as anything but the actions of a scared dumbass. He then came out with the talking point that chimp didn't want to "scare the children." I knew at that point I was trying to get through to a moron.

I, too, knew the idiot was going to be a disaster. He had never succeeded at anything in his entire life. I'm still stunned that anyone voted for him. Says a lot about the American people, doesn't it?

10. And after his *My Pet Goat* moment ....

when he got over being too stunned and scared to move, he ran and hid while his people need a real leader to guide and encourage them.

8. that the government is not your friend, and in fact, doesn't like you very much
I don't know if I 'learned' that from these two episodes, but it certainly drove the point home for me.

11. I learned this:
"George Bush doesn't care about black people."

"From a marketing point of view, you don't roll out new products in August."

That's what stands out for me! That, and you can royally fuck things up and still keep your job for at least a little while as long as you kiss the right ass.

Actually, I guess I learned that early on in my career, but thanks for reinforcing that lesson for me, Georgie!

14. And don't forget...
"Now watch this drive..."

Truly one of this country's most revelatory presidential moments.

Or maybe the WH press corpse dinner where they play a video of him hunting around the oval office, looking for WMDs and not finding any under the desk, or behind the couch and so forth. Just a big bundle of laughs, our president, and the press corpse gets it because they're all in on the joke. Hell, they had a huge part in creating the joke.

And now of course, we all know who the joke's on. Ha - fucking - ha.

15. They are fighting them over there so they can't help you over here.
With all of the equipment and manpower in Iraq making the big bucks for this administration and their pals, we are on our own America.. Get used to it... Can't count on our National Guard for the help that these cities need when a catastrophe happens....
