I'm calling on President Bush to pardon Paris Hilton! |
|
If Shrub can flirt with pardoning Shooter's former Chief of Staff Scooter Libby- If Shrub can allow illegal spying by the NSA- If Shrub can keep Attorney General Gonzo who has lost all respect with the American people-
Then why not Mr. President pardon Paris Hilton before she has another panic attack? She has already been behind bars for 10 days! Taxpayers are currently footing the bill of over $1,000 per day (10 X that of your non-famous inmate) for Hilton's special dietary, mental health, and sanitation needs at the Lynwood Correctional Facility. This is a travesty of justice! We taxpayers are already spending over $100,000 per minute in Iraq; and now add to that another $1000 per day for Paris? Does someone at least provide her with fresh linen every morning?
All I'm asking Mr. President, is to be consistent.
I can think of no better way to highlight your priorities and philosophy then to grant a full and immediate pardon to Paris Hilton!

The president cannot pardon someone for a state offense. Article II, Section 2 of the Constitution gives the president the "Power to Grant Reprieves and Pardons for Offences against the United States, except in Cases of Impeachment." That means the president can pardon only for federal crimes.

"The Department's regulations require a petitioner to wait a period of at least five years after conviction or release from confinement (whichever is later) before filing a pardon application (28 CFR Section 1.2)."
And we all know the regulations will be rigorously followed by Herr Bush, just as they were by his father who pardoned anyone who could implicate him.
