Just on CNN, Ruth (Mrs. Billy) Graham in coma
"close to going to heaven" from sources. The idiot talking head (red hair, don't know her name) said Billy Graham has advised presidents for centuries. I shit you not.

7. Washington or Billy Graham?
I do believe BG and MLK were acquainted and both carried their christianity well. Something lacking in many "leaders" nowadays.

10. Yes, I think they marched together. (Not Washington, although maybe on Washington? Then again
Gen. Washington had his own marching experience so can be counted as a brother in arms in that sense.) :silly:

15. She's just using Bart simpson logic
Boys: Mickey Rooney!
Rooney: Hi, Milhouse. The studio sent me to talk to you, being a former child star myself, and the number one box office draw from 1939 to 1940.
Bart: Wow, spanning two decades.

8. My dad, who follows all the Graham stuff closely, said Mrs Graham
was PO'ed at her kids, Franklin and that nasty self-righteous woman Anne Granham Lotz, for fighting with each other and their father over the memorial for him, theme park, and the cash machine for his boyhood home. I wonder if she wants to pre-decease her husband so she doesn't have to witness all the fighting over where to bury him, etc.

12. Somehow I'm not surprised at Franklin's attitude.
He liked to brag what a rebel wild young man he was until he "really found Jesus". Now he's the worst kind of fundie you can get. I liked BG but not this kook.

Prayers to Ruth and Billy.

21. Yes, PKs are an interesting bunch
;-) Though the two Presby boys I played with when I was little were nice enough. I don't recall them being obnoxious. The little girl next door to me, the Baptist preacher's daughter, really got messedup in Jr High, lots of partying and drugs, etc. Sad, we were really great friends.

Welcome to DU Satbod Elder! :hi:

13. Both Ruth and Billy will be buried at the Library
It was just announced on the PBS station here.

They decided that probably because they wanted to stop all the family squabling.

I wish both Ruth and Billy a peaceful passing. O8)

17. This just in: Randall Terry launches a "Save Ruth Graham" campaign.
Edited on Wed Jun-13-07 02:24 PM by David Zephyr
Now that the Graham's face the same situation that Michael Schiavo faced for a decade, it will be interesting to watch the double standard that is surely to now play out. Watch how the sleaze bag fundies will stay away from the Graham family and give them the privacy and respect that they never afforded poor Michael.

So will the fundie public and the news media dare ask the Graham family if Ruth is on a feeding tube, and if so, then will Bush's federal law be in action to "save" her from being "murdered" by her family should they decide to remove a feeding tube?

32. Exactly. The Graham family will be able to pull any plug with dignity
and with privacy...the same that the religious nuts in this country deprived poor Michael Schiavo of. But, of course, "that's different".

making the distinction.- I share your perspective about BG and hope for comfort and peace for the family.

BG was a great support to Bill Clinton when he needed it the most- and they seem to share a sincere friendship with each other.

peace,

22. This must be a difficult time for the family. Even if she was already ailing, this is not an
easy time for family, friends and admirers.

While I may not think much of the choices of Franklin Graham, that is besides the issue. He is most likely about to lose his mother. I'm lucky to still have both my parents and I do not look forward to this event with mine.

I have a good opinion of Billy Graham. I know lots of other like-minded people who feel the same in regards to Billy Graham and, by common extension, his wife, Ruth.

My thoughts are with the family.

24. I spent the better part of April and May in hospital waiting rooms
while my 92 year old dad was in and out of intensive care. I sat in those rooms with people from all walks of life and from a variety of cultures and countries. I'm sure that in many cases the only thing I had in common with them was that we were all there hoping for the best outcome for a loved one. And when things went well for any of us, we all felt better and when things went poorly, we all felt that too. So I wish Mrs. Graham and her family the best.

PS - After 11 weeks of wearing hospital gowns, my dad was able (with help) wear real clothes for the first time today.

26. Prayers for BG and Mrs. Graham.
I met Billy Graham years ago, when I was a student at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville (around 1978 or so). He struck me then, and now, as sincere and genuine. He was and is The Real Deal, unlike the Falwells and Robertsons of the world. God bless him and Miss Ruth. After she's gone, I imagine Billy won't be far behind.

Peace to the family.

Sitting watch as a loved one slips away is a remarkable and deeply painful experience.
