What Does It Say About Bush That He Routinely Pockets His Watch Before Working a Crowd? --->>>

God, what a paranoid little creep. Before he reaches out to greet his pre-screened fans he HIDES his WATCH? That really shows you what he thinks of them. It's the same attitude that makes him repeat the tired old joke about hiding the silverware. Overprivileged little jerk. Takes after his mother.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/06/13/AR2007061300057.html

On Sunday, the president -- no jacket, sleeves rolled up -- dove into an adoring crowd in Fushe Kruje, Albania, and was mobbed by well-wishers who grabbed his arms and hands. In photographs and video footage, Bush is wearing a dark-strapped watch on his left wrist that suddenly disappears, leading to international speculation that a fast-fingered fan lifted it.

No, no, no, said the U.S. Embassy in Tirana, which denied that the timepiece had been stolen. The White House said Bush took it off himself. "The president put it in his pocket, and it returned safely home," said press secretary Tony Snow yesterday. It's not unusual for the president to remove his wedding ring and watch before working a crowd, confirms our colleague Peter Baker.

1. Actually, I cut dumbya some slack on this.
If greeters grabbed his arm to touch him (gag, gag) & pulled on his watch, it would hurt. Especially when the watch band grabbed all his little hairs.

The same for the ring. He'll shake with both hands to try to touch (gag, gag) as many people as possible. If you've ever been through a long receiving line you'll know how at the end you wish you had taken off your rings.

2. Yeah, but what does it say about him that he has to go to a foreign country
to get some love like that. He wouldn't come out to greet a meeting of DUers like that, and he works for us.

8. I think he might have gotten love from the fundies
a few years ago. Now I guess he only has to worry about pickles & Barney grabbing him by the short hairs.

4. And too, a watch could injure people in the crowd -- the band could scratch them. . .
seems removing a wristband and rings would be a sensible thing for anyone who works a crowd to do -- and it ensures they won't get stolen to boot. Can't fault anyone from wanting to avoid losing their watch & stuff either, even if it's George W.

5. "a watch could injure people in the crowd"
Bush has never WORKED a crowd during his term, though. You think he was concerned for their safety here?

6. And I have NEVER seen a politician remove their watch before a hand shaking event.
It's just not done. I don't believe it for a second. This is Bush paranoia in full bloom.

12. I think I remember photos of him working the crowd
during the '04 campaign. Have no idea if he removed his watch. Plus, those audiences were all hand picked. No danger of them roughing up their golden son.

19. Never? . . .
Could be. . . I'm not one to defend the schmuck, especially as my comment was about people and politicians in general, and George Bush was lumped in only at the end, as someone with concern for his possessions.

16. How does Tony explain the disappearing watch.
Are we to believe that George was slick and quick enough to pocket his own watch? It was there and then it wasn't. Did the camera lie or does Tony?

He always takes off his watch and ring before he tries to run down reporters, too.

25. My guess: He doesn't want that watch to end up on E-Bay.
Just like he joked to a mother who's on died in Iraq not to sell the Prez coin on E-Bay.
