Bush calls watch story ‘ludicrous’

http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2007/06/13/bush-calls-watch-story-ludicrous/

<snip>

President Bush officially put to rest days of Internet rumors and international reports that his watch had been stolen as he greeted a crowd in Albania over the weekend when, on Wednesday afternoon, he rolled up his sleeves for a photographer, revealing the timepiece in question.

The White House said, indeed, it is the same leather wristwatch he was wearing in Albania.

...

According to CNN’s Ed Henry, a Time magazine photographer asked Mr. Bush on the way out, “Do you have the time?”

The president played along and let the photographer snap a shot of the watch.

“I have never seen such a ludicrous story. Unbelievable,” the president said.

1. "I mean, sure, I was blacked out at the time"
"But I've watched the video, and I didn't do anything too bad."

3. Its the very FIRST time that
Ive ever agreed with monkeyboy. It is a ludicrous story. Just another way to eat up mins on the news that could be used to report on real news.

4. After six long years
he finally told the truth!
Olberman showed video last night where the monkey/dictator took it off and put it in his pocket.

5. They showed video from a camera that wasn't there
Proof is in the wide shot video. There's no camera over his left shoulder.

It was stolen, but you're right it's not worth wasting any more time on. No pun intended.

6. Oh, that might actually be interesting. How many people remove their watch before shaking hands?
Especially people with as much money as Junior. Do the Albanians know he doesn't trust them?

7. I have! "Iraq has sought quantities of uranium from Africa." THAT was more ludicrous.
"We can't wait until the smoking gun becomes a mushroom cloud." Yeah, that was more ludicrous too.

9. No it wasn't.
Saddam really was seeking significant quantities of uranium from Africa. He was going to make watches out of it.

8. Why would anyone WANT Bush's watch?
Bush is clumsier than Gerald Ford ever thought of being. Plus, drunks fall down a lot.

Add to that his hobbies such as brush-clearing, mountain biking and beating his shoe against the table, all of which are very hard on wristwatches.

There's no way he'd wear a real expensive watch because they'd never last. He probably just sends one of his minions to Wal-Mart every couple of months to buy a case of their $9.95 watches. Wear one for a week or two, whack it against the desk while jumping up and down screaming that you're the president, it goes dead, you open the desk drawer and get out a new one...no big deal.

Extra bonus: they can keep one set to every time zone he's going to and just trade watches with him before he gets on the plane. As much as he's in the Central Time Zone, it saves his handlers worry.

10. Yeah
cause it's so hard to produce a watch with a brown strap.

He was probably too drunk to know what happen to the watch at first.

11. WTF does he need a watch for anyway?
Most the people I have ever known who wear watches are people who actually take on responsibilities, you know, like work and stuff where they have to be on time?

I can't remember any sorry, lazy ass slackers I've known that have worn a watch, why should this dipshit be any different from them?

12. Leather Strap?
Anyone who saw the actual tape of the incident knows he is lying. He put his hand in the crowd with the watch on. As he brought his hand out of the crowd there was a brief second you didn't see his arm and a split second later you see his arm w/ no watch on it. If it was an expansion band there is a chance he could have yanked it off in that split second. But a leather band?? No way. You need your other hand to take off a leather band and he definetely did NOT do that. Not enough time and his other hand was not on his left arm in any way that he would have been taking off a leather band.

Again as always- if his lips are moving, he's lying.

14. After watching (eek pun) the video on the Colbert Report I have to say it wasn't stolen
I don't have a link for it but the perspective shows that it is very likely that he took the watch off after the first encounter with the touchy feely crowd and handed it off to the CIA guy standing to his right. You can't actually see the watch when he does it but if you watch his body language and motion it is pretty clear he was taking something off and handing it off. When we next see his wrist the watch is gone.

18. I have to say, it must have looked kind of funny, if he did that ...
Doing that in front of people would give them the impression that he didn't trust them! Speaking of "watch subtexts", didn't his dad get into trouble for looking at his own wristwatch during the debates?

he opens his mouth. The watch was stolen. Who on earth takes off a watch in the middle of that crush of people. I call bullshit.
