Republicans abandoning Bush
NBC/WSJ poll: President’s, Congress’ ratings drop to lowest levels ever

WASHINGTON - As President Bush attempts to revive the controversial immigration reform bill he supports, the latest NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll finds that Republicans are abandoning the president, which has dropped his job-approval rating below 30 percent -- his lowest mark ever in the survey.

But he isn’t the only one whose support is on the decline in the poll. Congress’ approval rating has plummeted eight points, bringing it below even Bush’s. And just one in five believe the country is on the right track, which is the lowest number on this question in nearly 15 years.

Republican pollster Neil Newhouse, who conducted the survey with Democratic pollster Peter D. Hart, argues that these numbers have crossed below the political “Mendoza line,” referring to the feeble .200 batting-average mark in baseball. “With the mood of the country dropping below 20, and the president’s approval below 30, both are candidates for a sort of political Mendoza line,” he says.

In the poll, Bush’s approval rating is at just 29 percent. It’s a drop of six points since April, and it represents his lowest mark ever on this question in the NBC/Journal poll. <snip>

1. I've never seen a congress with a good approval rating so I don't pay much attention to it.
Dems would never like a repuke congress and repukes would never like a Dem congress so it can't get above 50% if the country is evenly split. There are all these reports about congress and pork and yet people vote for the person who brings home the most pork.

3. Yes, you are correct, however, this congress so far has not been
overly impressive for dems or repukes.

2. The time is ripe for extremists to gain a footing--on both sides...
And at the moment the far right is better organized and more vocal than the left. :scared:

5. They got his
watch already. Doubt they want to see him again without a new watch.

8. Naw, that watch story is not true. He is clearly show on one video as
sliding the watch off and putting it in his pocket.

Let's just be truthful -- there's enough stuff already out there, and I am NO Bush apologist.

7. I believe Truman in 1952.
His approval rating was only 23% then.

10. I think the only Congressional approval rating that matters is
the rating a citizen would give for his or her OWN representatives -- not the Congress as a whole.

It would be interesting to know those figures.

12. Most of the time, the ratings within a district are above 50%
Last year, even with all the changes, most still were above 50% and Congress' overall was in the 30's or 40's.

19. That's what I suspected. It's the same with how most people
view schools. Their own kid's school is fine -- it's all the other schools that need improvement!

13. The decider doesn't give a pe-diddly what we the people think or want: he doesn't have to for the
lock-stepping Congress has given him virtual dictatorial powers in contravention of the Constitution. But wait, the Supremes will right the ship of state. Yeah! The Supremes will set him straight.

18. This is how he'll be remembered in the history books---
the president with one of the greatest rises and falls. Of course, that will be the most innocuous part of his legacy.
