Republicans abandoning Bush -- Freepers react -- very revealing
In case you haven't seen it yet: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/19209733/

<snip>

WARSHINGTON - As President Bush attempts to revive the controversial immigration reform bill he supports, the latest NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll finds that Republicans are abandoning the president, which has dropped his job-approval rating below 30 percent -- his lowest mark ever in the survey.

But he isn’t the only one whose support is on the decline in the poll. Congress’ approval rating has plummeted eight points, bringing it below even Bush’s. And just one in five believe the country is on the right track, which is the lowest number on this question in nearly 15 years.

Republican pollster Neil Newhouse, who conducted the survey with Democratic pollster Peter D. Hart, argues that these numbers have crossed below the political “Mendoza line,” referring to the feeble .200 batting-average mark in baseball. “With the mood of the country dropping below 20, and the president’s approval below 30, both are candidates for a sort of political Mendoza line,” he says.

In the poll, Bush’s approval rating is at just 29 percent. It’s a drop of six points since April, and it represents his lowest mark ever on this question in the NBC/Journal poll.

--------

Freepers react (selected snips follow from this FreeRepublic thread): http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1849756/posts?q=1&;page=51

--

Or, has Bush abandoned the Republicans?

--

Can this be made a news story every day until 20 Jan 2009?

--

Talk about stating the obvious. Next they need a story on how the sky is blue.

--

Bush has brought down the whole temple. He destroyed his own presidency, the first pillar; by turning both houses of congress over to the Democrats, he overturned that pillar too.

I feel really stupid for how much I used to support this guy.

--

I was prepared to abandon him when I heard about the amnesty bill, but when I researched the issue more thoroughly, I found that he had already abandoned me.

--

I'd say that's very much more the case. Eventually the dems are going to move on impeachment, and he will need his base more than ever. Too bad for him, much of his base won't be there for him. I know I sure as hell won't. The dems can have him as far as I'm concerned...

--

Who still supports Bush? I am embarassed that I voted for him twice. I considered him the lesser of two evils. He and the so called Republican leaders need to back off.

--

IF he succeeds in passing this shamnesty, his ratings will be so low, I hope he's impeached!

__________________________

So, there it is. A political meltdown rivaling Chernobyl, and with likely as long-lasting effects.

George W. Bush has destroyed EVEN HIS OWN BASE OF SUPPORT.

And that, my friends, will go down in history as his greatest accomplishment.

Now there's a legacy for ya.

71. I went to e-mail the following, and I got a notice saying the
e-mail addy was not usable...

comments@whitehouse.gov.

It's been a while since I e-mailed you...So...

Just thought I'd drop you al line to let you know you have, by all accounts, now cemented your position of the worst president this nation has ever known, or probably ever will know. Thank God you will be out of office relatively soon.

I'd just like to remind you that you've failed at everything you've ever attempted in you adult life, to include nearly bankrupting the State of Texas, and now you HAVE bankrupted the Nation. You are perhaps, the biggest screw up ever to be in power; and I don't think I'll even mention the war, or failing to get bin-Laden.

Let's face it, about a year ago I suggested to you that you step down, and take Cheney with you, you didn't take that advice, and now, you are so far into the hole, you'll never get back out. Do you realize that if Jesus himself came down and stood next to you, you would STILL be abhorred by the people of this Great Nation.

To put it honestly, you are nothing more than a little brat, you have no compassion, no empathy, you live for death, and you just don't have a soul. You have bought this country down to it's knees, you have gone out of your way to destroy the very Constitution that you swore to uphold.

Face it, take some responsibility here, you stink as a president, and there are some serious questions as to your behavior as an adult.

Face it, take some responsibility here, you stink as a president, and there are some serious questions as to your behavior as an adult.

If you have any thoughts of salvaging what has become an embarrassment of the highest order, you will resign, take Cheney with you, and allow and adult with some thinking capacity to enter the White House. Someone with a little bit of sense would be a vast improvement over you, did I tell you you stink...oh yeah, I did.

Disgusted in Nebraska,

xxxxxx xxxxx

Guess it'll have to wait for a day or two...:D

Rove gave a speech in the run up that Illegal Immigration would be the #1 issue to focus on (around Dec/Jan IIRC). We started hearing it bouncing around the echo chamber after that, but the Dems were able to make corruption and Iraq #1. Looks like Rove got his wish!

is some of them are also mad at the republican party. Bush has been losing support from the base for a long time. The immigration issue is just the final nail in his coffin.

14. No kidding. Their thread is growing, I just read this comment:
"On the way home from work today I was thinking about how strongly I supported W.

I traveled to Boston and stood with fellow Freepers in Boston (in the cold!) during the 2000 mess.

I manned phones in Manchester.

And last week I grimly peeled the Bush/Cheney sticker off my bumper.

I feel anger, disappointment, and even dislike towards this man - and many in my chosen party."

---

They're VERY angry and disillusioned. No wonder.

Oh, sure, they voted for him, got him into power. But Bush's real base isn't to be found at FR.

They're not the ones he thinks about, cares about or even gives a second thought to.

The "real" base is found in corporate headquarters, mega-churches and... foreign leaders in such places as Israel and Saudi Arabia.

Freepers were the ultimate suckers. Glad to see that at least a few of them are waking up.

20. that thread is a must read
I'm really heartened. The poster JeanS is, IIRC, Jean Schmidt. The one and only. I used to monitor FR every day, for years.

I love the little cat fight that's starting up between two women. Check this out:

"What has happened to this site that a good man who liberated two countries from viscous (sic) dictators and has been fighting day and night to spare us from another 9/11 attack and you to malign him for an immigration bill that was put together in the backroom and tried to shove thru congress without any debate. You should be praying for him and consider getting some help for yourself."

21. Many RWingers don't like the Guest Worker idea or
the 12 year path to Citizenship for those Illegally residing in America now. I suspect quite a few Dems don't like it so much either but the majority of Dems in Congress support this Immigration Bill. It is a problem that can be negotiated but Busholini doesn't do compromise. It is always his way or anyone not going with his way is not a patriotic American. That is how a Silver Spoon Sociopath is. Anyone expecting anything different is delusional at best or downright stupid.

27. So, the reason why the freepers finally abandoned Bush was that he
wasn't racist and anti-immigrant enough for them. Yes, that is quite revealing indeed.

And just so you know freeps, the reason why Bush isn't looking to piss off the Mexican community is because they are the fastest growing voting block in the nation. But hey, you guys keep on being yourselves, it just means more votes for us in the long run. Enough to relegate you to a permanent minority one day.

34. "Don't Fergit Ta Git Ready Fer Mah New Pearl Harbor!" or "Do Ya Thank Ah Wawn't DOOOOIT?"
Really, I've never known rats who were more cornered...

For the first time in my life, I feel sorry for (some of) them.

Now would be time for Dick to pull that nukyuler rabbit out of his Hat of Evil...Oh, wait, he just locked himself in his bunker, set the locks for 50 years, turned on the DefCon 1 lights, and popped open an ice cold can of Ensure...

I was talking to a state party worker today, and he made sense of not going for impeachment.

We don't have the 60 votes, and we need republican votes to git 'er done.

It may be time to just let him sink, let him marginalize himself until (as we have seen here) his own base dumps him. Then, AFTER we git 'er done with Cheney we won't have to worry about the chimp, because he will have done himself in, and done it better than we ever could have. Rove will have to be dealt with, though, and that right soon.

Cheney first...expose the crime...indict, impeach, try, convict, and imprison...

By then the chimp will be President Irrelevant or out of office, or both.

38. Which of course, raises the question...
why the hell aren't we impeaching him already? If his own base is that much against him, we could very well get the votes we need.

41. Poor little piggies
They're just finding out now that Bush is selfish only for himself, and he's not including them in his grand design of controlling the world. Guess they'll just have to go back to voting the straght KKK ticket.

44. Bush had a lot of those "lesser of two evils" votes in 2004
I knew a few guys that were all gung-ho for Kerry in the summer of 2004. However, the media machine so effectively demonized Kerry that they ended up admitting to voting for Bush because they felt he was the lesser of two evils.

54. Odd, because everyone I know who was borderlined
was the other way around... they chose Bush as the lesser of two evils in 2000, but by the time 2004 came around, they realized what a mistake they'd made. :)
Of course, I have a habit of hanging out with people who actually pay attention to what's going on in the world every now and then, so that might be why.

86. These were co-workers
Not informed on the DU level, but I would not consider them stupid, either. However, if you're 50 years old and get have been getting your news from the "so-called liberal media" for your whole life - and, then this same media is giving the Swift Boaters a month of 24-7 coverage - it can make one wonder.

And, don't underestimate the power of RW hate radio, even on an indirect basis. A ditto-head hears something and repeats it to a middle-of-the-road type and it can sometimes sound plausible when it's coming from a live person instead of a shrill bozo on the radio.

50. Media DISSECTION TIME
---->WARSHINGTON (How do YOU spell "Washington"? - I assume this was clipped from the Article, which means that the Media source cares little for details, just flat out Propaganda)

As President Bush attempts to revive the controversial immigration reform bill he supports, the latest NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll finds that Republicans are ---->abandoning the president<------ (Makes us THINK that there's HOPE for the REPIGS, that they'll roll over on the War, a Psych job by the Media, playing with our heads, FRAMING)

which has dropped his job-approval rating below 30 percent -- his lowest mark ever in the survey.<-------(TRUTH? How about the LOWEST IN HISTORY? Naw, the MEDIA can't Let THAT Cat out of the Bag.. and we all know that if THAT number is the one they throw at us, it's MUCH worse..)

But he isn’t the only one whose support is on the decline in the poll. <-----(ALWAYS make sure that the problem is SHARED if it Involves a REPUBLICAN, it's the Media's JOB, ala ROVE and CO)

Congress’ approval rating has plummeted eight points, bringing it below even Bush’s. <-----(Gee Whiz, those BAD Democrats, they're Bringing down the whole country, too bad they somehow WON the govt back, just look at them.. remember, I'm saying this from a Right Wing Viewpoint, personall I am behind the DEMS, it's the MEDIA that's Framing this, don't forget, and don't get sucked into it.. But They're even WORSE THAN BUSH, hey EVERYONE!! Look at THAT!! Sickening, more FRAMING, Headtrips by THE MEDIA)

And just one in five believe the country is on the right track, which is the lowest number on this question in nearly 15 years.<---(Another Opportunity to BASH Dems.. 15 years ago would be our REAL PRESIDENT Clinton... And of course that ONE in FIVE that believe this, why it's GOT to be SOMEONE ELSE'S Fault, following on the heels of the CONGRESS BASH in this article, it would APPEAR that it's CONGRESS that's making it all happen, and not that BASTARD BUSH who's dragging our country to HELL by the short hairs..)

RESULTS?

TOTAL PROPAGANDA..

Just ask Symbolman of Takebackthemedia.com - I've been watching this bullshit for YEARS, and am just about to start a blog or page where I can DISSECT News REPORTS on a Regular basis, for those that don't know how BADLY their heads are being SCREWED WITH.

You know, Freepers, and those Liberals who appear to be nothing more than "REPEATER STATIONS" for the right wing :)

Even greater than in his wildest wet dreams (the ones with Condi-in-Boots in them) -- first, he united the WORLD, and now he's uniting the U.S.!

How's that ranch in Paraguay looking, Junior?

62. This is a good one!
His current cabinet and subcabinet leadership is even worse. This is not the crowd that "knows how to get things done." Often Bush makes very sound and solid policy statements, and then his appointees go and sabotoge the whole thing.

Remember back in 2000 when they said that Bush doesn't need experience because he will be surrounded by good advisers!

73. There's been some kind of tear in the time space continuum. Can it be that some
of the 29% Idiot Brigade have finally come to their senses? Well, no not really. It turns out that we're all hating Bush for different reasons. For normal, intelligent people, Bush is a a symbol of hatred, greed, bigotry and evil. To the 29%-ers, he's not being ENOUGH of a bigot for their tastes.

Interesting. Never thought this would happen.

They've been cheering him on for the last 6 years and applauding everything he's done and now that the tree is bearing sour fruit it must be all Bush's fault. They're ready to go out and vote for another down home, folksy, empty suit of a candidate like Fred Thompson and repeat the same mistakes all over again.
