Deputy Sheriff killed while attending funeral of fellow deputy sheriff
A deputy for the St Tammany Parish Louisiana Sheriff's department was killed yesterday when a freak storm downed a Pine Tree on his patrol car as he was on his way to the cemetary to bury a fellow deputy who died last week in a traffic accident.

Another deputy who was in the car hit by the pine tree is in the hospital in critical condition with spinal injuries.

Just goes to show we never know when our day will come.

RIP to the deputy.

3. There is just no escaping the Reaper when your number's up.
When I lived in Utah, I remember a similar story of a female firefighter who was killed when a big cottonwood tree fell onto her car, and a guy who was fishing in a canyon and a giant boulder let loose from the cliff face and rolled over him. I always thought, what would have happened if the firefighter had gone 36 MPH instead of 35? or if the fishing guy had gone to get a new minnow out of the bucket?

4. Yep
When I was in the 10th grade I was hit by a car and came within about a half a foot of being killed. It just wasn't my day. That was 37 years ago and I'm still ticking. But I shiver at the thought of that incident.

6. The Sheriff's staff is a mess right now
and they have to start planning another funeral (maybe two.) It will be a long, long time before they get over this.
