Louisiana town bans saggy pants
http://news.aol.com/topnews/articles/_a/louisiana-town-bans-sagging-pants/20070614105409990001?ncid=NWS00010000000001

DELCAMBRE, La. (June 13) - Overly saggy britches are obscene, the Delcambre Town Council says. So does Mayor Carol Broussard, who said he will sign an anti-sag ordinance passed unanimously this week.

*snip*

Some of you may have already seen this. The elephant in the room and the one thing the article doesn't mention is that Virginia had already tried the same thing and was ridiculed by the international community. Does anyone remember that? It was just last year, and it was in the news cycle for about a week. Why is that fact conveniently forgotten?

2. Depends on who's wearing them
On the other hand, government should not be acting as the fashion police. Leave that up to TLC and shows like "What Not To Wear".

23. Don't try to read anything into it
I have no problem with young people wearing baggy pants. I might think it's comical sometimes, but it doesn't really bother me.

On the other hand, I really don't like seeing some redneck lardass's butt crack when he's leaning over to fix something.

That's all I really meant.

3. so let's see... over the years one state or another has banned
clothing that was too tight (e.g. thongs, hot pants, etc)

and now clothes that are too baggy.

I do believe I can state w/o fear of being incorrect that we have collectively lost our marbles.

6. People try to control what the actually CAN control.
Can't stop the war, can't stop the sinking standard of living, can't stop China from owning us. But dammit, we can stop kids from wearing saggy pants.

10. Best analysis of the whole genre of legislation!
'Because I'm the mommy/daddy and I say so!' legislators are gutless wonders, afraid to do the work they were elected to do.

9. Stephen Colbert did a story on this when he was at the Daily Show
Basically going to Louisiana and interviewing people who were in favor of the ban (the baggy pants apparently allowed female teenagers to show their thongs, etc.). He got one minister to admit to the idea that showing crack can lead to using crack.

The best part though was when he interviewed an attractive clothing store owner about the effects this ban would have on her, and one of his questions was, "What's it like to be so, so pretty?" She didn't know how to react to that.

I'm just glad my parents didn't give me a sexually ambiguous name.

24. What I hate the most - pants that hang down under the butt
so the underpants are all showing.

I see this once in a while and it just cracks me up.

Course those kids can't even walk. They take three steps and pull their pants up - walk three steps pull their pants up.

26. You should watch one try to get his wallet out of his pocket!
I saw I guy doing this at a store register ... first attempt no good. Second no better ... by the fourth try he was practically squatting in the floor because when he stooped down to reach lower for his pocket, of course the pocket went lower too!

17. I agree that government should not dictate fashion; however, as a
citizen and teacher, I must say that the saggy pants are not only unattactive and passe', but also stupid. Guys running to class holding onto their pants so they do not fall down and sitting in class with their underwear showing...and this is in a school with dress code and uniforms... do not present a studious air...to say the very least.
