Fitz can offer freedom pending full disclosure.

Think drug-dealers. The little fgish gets busted, hit with prison sentence, offered freedom in exchange for testimony against bigger fish.

23. It's easier to be
brave when the idea of a jail cell is in the distance. It's quite another when incarceration is more immediate. Libby is a husband and a father; is he actually going to feel more obligation to continue a lie, than to be a responsible family member?

38. I'll say.
I hope Libby takes a good, long hard look into his children's little eyes tonight and decices to do the right thing. Cheney and hisilk are loyal to Scooter as long as he keeps his trap shut; the minute he talks they'll cut him off at the knees do whatever it takes to ruin him. Scooter's going to miss 2 1/2 years of his children's lives for THAT?

We shall see.

I think Scooter will sing like a flock of songbirds. Loyalty is a two-way street. If * doesn't save him from a jail term, Scooter won't see a reason to remain loyal. Not with two young kids at home.

67. Of course he will, but Scooter may see prison first.
After all, Dubya did say that if anyone in his white house was involved, he would be taken care of. So Dubya will take care of him and issue a pardon, but not until the appeals process has played out.

It would be better not to have the conviction than to have the conviction and a pardon.

but an ex machina hunch based on observation over the last 6 years. These people make eels look like they've been coated with sandpaper. Laws are flouted, subpoenas ignored, that kind of thing.

But...because you say it, and because you are usually right, I will momentarily suspend my disbelief. Also illogical, perhaps, but hope dies last. :D

39. There are some 'possible' dynamics going on behind the scenes here...
It became clear that Fitz was close to indicting Rove until 'something' changed Fitz' mind. Most pundits believe it was a 'recalled conversation' that Rove had, that he went back to the GJ for an unprecedented fifth time to 'revise' his testimony under oath.

But then it was later learned that Rove was the source for locating copies of the VP Office 'missing emails'--in that he told Fitz about the offsite facility where copies were stored on a massive server, and Fitz got right over there and obtained those copies. Shortly thereafter Cheney's Office acknowledged other emails and turned them over to Fitz.

That would be enough to raise a suspicion that Rove and Bush may be playing to firewall themselves from liability by blaming Cheney and Libby.

It has been reported also that Cheney and Bush are at odds as to the issue of pardoning Libby(remember the note Cheney wrote about someone sticking their neck in the meatgrinder?). Bush and Cheney retained individual personal lawyers early on, and were questioned together --you can bet that was a result of their lawyers' advice.

I think Bush and Rove will not pardon Libby, and Libby cannot cooperate with Fitz without implicating Cheney who is pushing for Libby's pardon.

IF that is the case, we could see some 'anonymous' attacks on Rove and possibly Bush coming from operatives in or connected with Cheney's Office. THis might be a warning shot to Bush and Rove that Cheney cannot let Libby take the fall or they all will be implicated --not just Cheney.

This could interesting ... unless Libby has an unfortunate accident, which would solve a lot of problems right away.

50. The fly in the Pardon Annoinment.
If Libby is pardoned he will lose 5th Amendment Rights and can be called by Congress to testify Under Oath. While the Appeals are ongoing there will be no Pardon. The Appeals could go on for at least a year. It is possible that the Appeal could be dropped. Then things could change. I doubt that Busholini will pardon Libby.

73. My prediction
No pardon for Scooter he will be left to rot in prison. Bush has seemed to work hard to keep a distance from this, more so than with other scandals. Cheney may want a pardon to come, but that does not mean it will happen.

Scooter will not roll over on his boss(es). With corruption and power at levels this high, Scooter understands, I think, the need for him to keep quiet for his health and well being, and that of his family as well. This is the mafia to the next level.

81. What about the possibility
that Fitzgerald has the goods on Cheney already - but that he feels it's an issue for the Congress? Or maybe he's been told as much by the court? Sealed vs Sealed anyone?

Fitz has made several public statements that seem to imply that he's waiting for his call from Conyers.
