check out the dire consequences MA will face, according to one FR post....

All that’s left is the repercussions, which will be many!
Increase of the exodus out of MA. Increase in children being pulled from public schools. Increase in folks allowing their properties to go into foreclosure rather than sell them and help the MA economy. Increases in homes that don’t sell. Increase in disgruntled voters.

Decrease in tourism. Decrease in spending in MA. Decrease in revenue from conventions (empty convention centers) Decrease in businesses operating or opening in MA.

Lose/Lose situation! All the way around. Where socialism/communism reigns, the economy/standard of living decline rapidly.

I'm trying desperately to figure out the connection between gay marriage and socialism or communism. Otherwise it's OMG, RUN FOR YOUR LIVES, EVERYONE! GAY MARRIAGE MEANS THE END OF CIVILIZATION!

What a maroon. :eyes:

5. And then freepers normally insult this state as liberal
But now suddenly they think everyone who lives there is like them? They are only describing what they would do if they lived there!

I'm only surprised they haven't found a way to connect the issue to Chappaquidick.

7. Let's see:
Tourism is fine here. Cape Cod and our beaches are packed every weekend in the summer. Lots of conventions come to Boston because it's a HISTORIC city. Gay marriage does not impact tourism-unless you're a bigot.

Massachusetts is a biotech center, and startups are springing up all over the state. Of course, many of these companies are focusing on STEM CELL RESEARCH-another thing that makes freepers' heads spin.

The canard that people are leaving Massachusetts was refuted in a Globe article a few months back. Of course, there's the ebb and flow of the student population.

And the disgruntled voters keep electing Democrats so obviously GQuagmire doesn't know what he's talking about!

8. Heh.
Decrease in tourism (from RW Nutjobs, except for Log Cabin Repubs)
Decrease in spending in MA (ditto)
Decrease in revenue from conventions (HAH! Does he not know Boston is home to a huge gay festival called Boston Pride?!?!)
Decrease in businesses operating or opening in MA (except all those businesses owned/operated by gays)

It couldn't be any worse than the decline in MA economy during Mit's reign as Gov. MA can only go up from that.

People who hate gays should all simply ruin their credit with a foreclosure. And who cares about equity anyways when there's gays to destroy.

18. Funny..... I live in Mass and haven'ty noticed one change
Before GBLT folks lived together, now they have a legal document. Doesn't make one bit of difference to any straight people I know. It does make a difference to the GBLT that have finally been able to marry their spouses legally though.

Only people it's effected are the catholic adoption services, I believe they have shut down here rather then have to help gays adopt. But that was their choice.

19. just what happened to Vermont, right?
the place is poverty stricken.

let's see what happens, shall we?

here's our baseline:

in 2004, when all this happened, Mass was the second wealthiest state, based on per capita income ($38,796, behind only Connecticut at $42,201) and since Conn is heavily skewed with NY commuters, Mass is more indingenously created. http://www.census.gov/statab/ranks/rank29.html

in 2003: (figures from ACS data, US Census Bureau.

Mass ranked second, behind the District, in percentage of 25 year olds (or older) who have a Bachelors Degree (35.8%)

Mass ranked 44th in percentage of childen living below the poverty line at 9.2% Lousiana, number 1, had 20.3%

seems to be doing ok. shall we check back in 5 years and see how that's going?

24. that's the "funny" think about Freepers and their heroes
they only like Democracy when it agrees with them. Heck, most of them most likely cheered every time the US backed a coup overthrowing a leftist Democracy. You know: cause communism is teh gay and all that...

Fucking morans. Heck, if they all promise to leave I'll promise to move there. On that note, this is evidence that we need to legalize equal marriage rights across the US so they can all go somewhere else and start their own tax-free country where they have the Bill of Right to Bear Arms and that's it.

Can't wait.

23. OMG, IT'S BEEN TERRIBLE!!!
Since our commonwealth legalized gay marriage, our divorce rate HAS NOT GONE DOWN (of course, it was already the lowest in the nation).

An OUR CHILDRENS ISN'T LEARNING MORE (of course, we already have the highest "no child left behind" NAEP test scores in the coutry).

Yeah, it would be so much better to live in a Red state.

26. Housing is already bad
in MA, and we didn't need to pass an anti-gay marriage to make it that way, just having GWB as president did that.

Housing is way overpriced, anyhow. Perhaps having less of a demand will help lower prices. I'd feel sorry for those who bought during the sky-rocketed prices, but a more realistic assessment of housing prices would be a good idea. Houses in Western Mass. are already many times cheaper than Central or Eastern MA.

As far as some of those other potential disasters are concerned, I doubt if the person posting knows diddly about MA--progressive schools are the norm, evolution is the norm, we have one of the best science museums in the country, we really don't need an influx in tourism because we don't rely on it as much as some states do (much of the MA revenue is from large companies and tech corps), tourists that DO come here are usually intelligent and largely progressive already, and well, shit, if the measure keeps away people like the original freeper poster, shit. I'm all FOR IT!!

28. This one needs... well, you decide
The reason why so few homosexuals/lesbians bother to get married is because they want to use marriage as a wedge to achieve the rest of their agenda. They are not interested in marriage for its own sake.

<snip>

What I don’t entirely get is why they don’t leave marriage alone. They already have the freedom to engage in whatever sexual relationship they want. That’s not good enough for them. They continually attack something that provides the best possible environment for kids. They deny that it provides the best possible environment for kids. They don’t seem to understand that if they “educate” the rest of us to want sexual anarchy, anarchy generally leads to greater repression. Anarchy does not work as social policy. “Gay” rights advocates and feminists actually have no idea at all of what will happen if traditional marriage collapses.

Okay, that's just dangerous. :scared:
