Most people are incarcerated as soon as the guilty verdict is handed down.
The media is treating Judge Walton's ruling today that Libby is to report to prison before his appeal has been heard as something unusual.

Well, unless you are extremely wealthy and/or equally well-connected, you or I would be sitting in jail or prison as soon as the guilty verdict is handed down.

Just had to set the record straight for anyone who might not know how things work in the real world.

1. Not true in Federal cases of this type
You have to schedule your date to show up. This isn't a violent crime case.

6. So are you saying...
Do you contend that a federal drug crime, let's say a "mule" transporting drugs across state lines, a person who cannot afford legal counsel, that the person convicted is not held in custody at the time of his/her verdict?

3. Non violent offenders who made all their court dates often get
time to set their affairs in order.

4. Not true
There is often a trial phase and a separate sentencing phase that could be weeks even months apart.

8. Old joke: life is like a shit sandwich...
the more bread you've got, the less shit you have to eat.

Still, though, time is generally given to get one's affairs in order.

Nonetheless, it's a load of crap. Throw this fuck into a dungeon right now.
