Poll question: Who watches the cable news channels more to see what they are NOT reporting than what they are? |

1. Without the internet & DU, I'd never know what they're NOT reporting. |
|
But yes, I watch them, being stuck at home, and I can plainly see what they are not reporting, and it's too obvious that the sexy news is covered, and the war coverage is HIGHLY controlled.

2. I watch it precisely for that reason. |
|
I was trained as a reporter and worked in that profession for 12 years - 10 of it professionally, two as a student reporter - and have sadly watched my beloved occupation become nothing but as means toward a corporate agenda and/or entertainment fluff over the past six years since I've been out.
I had wanted to be a reporter since I was 12 years old. I started college as a communications major and, unlike most new college students, I never changed majors. I worked in the profession at daily newspapers full time for eight years and freelancing for two years after my son was born. I eventually had to find other means of employment because of a divorce. I couldn't work the wild hours for low pay and try to raise a son as a single Mom, so I went into sales and marketing, but I still miss reporting. It's in my blood. However, I sometimes wonder if I would still enjoy it knowing how corporately-controlled the profession has become - how much of an agenda is impressed upon the journalists of today.
It's disheartening to say the least.

3. Seeing what they don't report is the only reason I watch. |
|
Its really sad to see how bad "journalism" is now. I don't think we have real journalism anymore. I shake my head wondering why they don't cover certain stories at all but Paris, Paris, Paris is all the talk.

4. The chasm is jaw-dropping. Occasionally I watch the BBC news |
|
and even between them and MSNBC/CNN, it's just enormous and neither one compares to DU LBN.

5. Not me, I have to depend on you guys! |
|
No cable and can only pick up one station, PBS.
Not that I am complaining, it's hard for me to watch any TV anymore!

7. I don't bother to watch American "news" (aka Infotainment) at all. |
|
BBC is available on the internet. And, their newsreaders don't sound like a cross between Shirley Temple and a duck.

8. When I'm bored, I check cable news channels |
|
to find out about the 2 or 3 big-hyped sensations of the week. Because that's about all they give us.
