2. Painful question...I love newspapers but they really stink anymore... |
|
Edited on Sat Jun-16-07 06:58 AM by Lobster Martini
There is nothing more fun than walking the dog to the corner, dropping fifty cents in the honor box and spending the next hour reading the half of the paper that the cat doesn't want to lay on.
But the local paper kicked a huge number of reporters out the door and relies increasingly on AP, and the best columnists are long gone. TeeVee news is laughable. As a result, I rely on various on-line sources, which is a shame because the cat has nothing to lay on.

4. A lot of the democratic sites have news. |
|
TPM cafe, Daily Kos, CrooksandLiars they are all good. AND you never ever see any of the information they post on cable or regular news.
Also the Canadian and UK newspapers and TV stations give a lot of news they don't report here. I haven't watched regular TV news in five years. Fox is programmed out of my remote. And after 5PM I don't watch CNN or Headline news. I check MSNBC with Keith and thats it at night except for our local news they have a station who gives you about 10 minutes of news at night and I catch that.

Thanks to Babylonsister, Kpete and many others here on DU, any news item...anywhere in the world...is posted on here and in a hurry. Also, be assured that if there's something going on the tube, it'll also be on here. I get a kick out of watching the Daily Show and coming on here during the commercial breaks...be assured there's gonna be a thread going on what's going on.
THere's also tremendous resources all across "the internets"...from the liveblogging and great commentary at Firedoglake to the Muckraking at Talking Points Memo to Consortiumnews that covers everything else. And who can forget the Orange Satan? It's not just circumventing the "mainstream" media, but out-performing it. And I know I'm not the only one who believes this.
I've cancelled my subscriptions to Time, U.S. News and Newsweek in the past 2 years...as the "News I Can Use" is a click away via Thinkprogress or MyDD or Americablog...or there'll be a link either in GD or LBN here on DU.
It's amazing to listen to the Repugnicans who distrust the corporate media, but are being failed by their own blogs.

I haven't the time to watch show biz on t.v. I'm seriously considering getting rid of the thing. It takes up too much space for something I rarely watch.
