Child slavery revelations shock China
Brickmakers accused of forcing hundreds of abducted youths to work in harsh conditions

By Howard W. French
New York Times News Service
Published June 16, 2007

SHANGHAI -- Su Jinduo and Su Jinpeng, brother and sister, were traveling home by bus from a vacation visit to Qingdao during the Chinese New Year in February when they disappeared.

Cheated out of their money when they sought to buy a ticket for the final leg of their journey home, they were taken in by a woman who offered them shelter and a meal on a cold winter night, and then later a chance to earn enough money to pay their fare by helping her sell fruit.

The next thing they knew, they were being loaded onto a minibus with several other children and taken to a factory in a neighboring province, where they were pressed into service making bricks. Several days later, the boy, who is 16, escaped with another boy and managed to reach home, enabling his father to rescue his 18-year-old sister a few days later.

This story is one of hundreds like it that have swept China in recent days in an unfolding scandal that involves the kidnapping in central China of hundreds of children, perhaps more, some reportedly as young as 8, who have been forced to work under brutal conditions. They are scantily clothed, unpaid and often fed little more than water and steamed buns in the brick kilns of Shanxi province. There have also been reports of adults forced to work under similar circumstances.

Not that they aren't a country with massive problems, but I wonder if there's another goal. :tinfoilhat:

4. If it is reported in the Corporate Controlled Media you know it is a KKKarl rove plan
Probably the one where we "Force" them to float their currency. This removes their unfair trade advantage. When oil is sold for Euros it also lets them have cheap oil while we pay top $.

5. Could these scandals force them to do that?
That would explain a lot. Economic warfare.

2. I was under the impression that everyone already knew about this stuff. It's been going on forever
unfortunately. Maybe the Olympics are bringing an increased scrutiny. I hope so. This crap has got to end before we can even pretend that humanity is "civilized", and not just a bunch of slightly smarter animals.

7. Unfortunately most children in China walk right into slavery, or are sent by their parents
But hey America, that set of lime green tumblers and the tiki torches you got at Target really 'made' your party didn't they.
