I am thoroughly sick of hearing "I don't recall," "I don't remember," "I'm not sure", and my personal hated favorite, "Mistakes were made."

Being accountable, and taking responsibility, is sometimes a difficult thing to do, but damnit, it's the ADULT thing to do! And if you don't want to be held accountable for what you do, then don't do anything wrong -- especially of the blatant type of wrong we have going on now.

of elections. When candidates of ANY party take lots of money from corporations and special interest groups, you can't tell me they don't feel an obligation to do their bidding. Not to mention the fact that elected officials have to spend so damned much time now on campaining and raising money that they don't pay attention to We The People. (Unless we are one of the very rich.)

33. Heard an interview today on AAR with someone who supports

public financing (forgive me, I can't recall the gentleman's name). He said that in the states that do public financing, it has worked very well, and a number of candidates who opted in to it won. They got a lot of small donations, got matching money from the state, and it worked out well. AND, most importantly, they were not beholden to the ABC Widget Company or the XYZ Rob-You-Blind Corporation.

I really like that idea!

right now. Corporations are given the status of "individuals"????? Sheesh. I am so with Randi Rhodes. She says that when corporations have to undergo a prostate exam or a mammogram, THEN they could be considered "individuals." And the thing is, the corporations do not have the same accountability that individuals like Jane and John Q. Citizen have. THEY get to offshore their accounts. THEY get to fudge on their taxes. THEY get all kinds of breaks that Jane and John don't.

and have tried several other churches, I never last a long time with any organized religion. I do try to live by the Golden Rule, because I think it is a good one. To me, any good cause (and I mean good, as in supporting people in a positive way, among other things), is worthy of one's time and attention, whether that thing be associated with religion or not.

38. Oh, I know. The son of a friend of mine was in Iraq for 18 months.

It absolutely tore her up. Fortunately, she had a lot of people to lean on. I know that some families don't, or feel that they don't, and that is so wrong. I cannot imagine how horrible it would be to feel that you have to deal with having a loved one in a war zone all by yourself.

You know, one of the biggest things that is wrong about this war is that We The People have not been asked to do anything except go shopping. I'm not saying that there aren't people who DON'T do something, like volunteer at a VA hospital, be a shoulder for a military spouse, protest the war, etc. But what is missing is a President who asks for true sacrifice, true giving, from the citizens of this country. I believe absolutely that the Iraq War was and is the greatest political blunder in the history of this country, but even with that, if Bush could order the invasion, than he could also ask for something more substantial than SHOPPING on the part of American citizens. That man is fucked up beyond anything I've ever seen.

We are the ones, all of us, you and me, who should be held totally accountable for what is going on. The blame and the buck stops here.

If we don't and can't take that, we then, (as we have been doing) only relinquish out power to the self-interests that only want to exploit our needs and takes us down a slippery slope to a form of total oblivion, be that personal, familial, or societal.

There is nobody to blame but those who buy what they are told to and watch what they are supposed to and believe what has been inserted into their minds from childhood on, never taking the time or enduring the pain and uncertainty of stopping to ask questions, think critically, and be willing to make important and powerful sacrifices to effect personal, and even, much larger, more impacting changes.

We grab at what we are taught to. We value what we are told is valuable. We allow ourselves to be inserted into comfortable, hermetically-sealed reality where all we can really say is "I could give a shit about it if it does not effect my comfort, wealth, or myopic self interests." The problem with that head-in-the-sand idealism is that it is just as vulnerable, in the long-term, as the paycheck to paycheck lives of the working poor, only with a delayed reaction. Do you really think, if you are in the xk to xk income bracket, (as opposed to insanely wealthy) that you are immune to the overall results that will effect all of us in the end? Think again. There is a line. There is a margin where you are able to be save and prosper or where you too will lose more than you imagined. Look back on the Great Depression, and as V2 looms, think about what you could do to wake up now and expand your self-interest to include more. Your selfishness could start to include those who do what you need to allow you to be so selfish in the first place. From there, much enlightenment can ensue. In fact, you might just see, barring the Elite controlling families who are obscenely wealthy and entrenched, we are all in this together and the downfall that you are contributing to in your bubble of delusion will certainly come if you don't start to open your eyes to a greater picture.

And We The Poor don't have any excuses either, if we are not so disaffected that we are totally homeless and raising our children out of automobiles rather than homes. We have to stop, look around, and wonder if our dire circumstances are merely serving to distract us, (with our day-to-day struggles and problems) from what it is that could actually lighten our load an bring us a better, more comfortable and secure life, in the end. And what a legacy that could be for our children, rather than a future of greater servitude and even lower expectations than we, ourselves, can imagine right now.

Our crises is of very great and tangible proportions right now. The course of events falls upon us, from the very poor and downtrodden to those who are well-off, but living in a virtual dream-world that is merely supported by circumstances than a substance with longevity. This is probably one of the most pivotal times in history and a strong awareness and reaction from the people could be substantial and effective. I only fear that the media, television, and the endless distractions of things to buy will prove to be our downfall by default. This is one of those times when going with and by the prescribed status quo is a certain path to a mutual form of destruction when it comes to what we all value and truly desire in a very deep and Existential sense.

The American People are failing their own system, one by one, and too many of them do not have a clue that this is the very map to the solution need so very badly in these tumultuous times.
