Hannity, Russert on Dems going ‘further left than anybody would have anticipated’
Posted 1:10 pm

I honestly wonder sometimes which country these guys are living in.
Video here: http://www.crooksandliars.com/2007/06/15/hannitys-new-bff-is-tim-russert/

Hannity: I think the Democrats have gone further left than anybody would have anticipated. I think these bloggers have really gotten to them. I think they’re really positioning themselves that they’re gonna have a very difficult time moving center. Do you see that?

Russert: Absolutely, because what has happened, the Democrats will acknowledge, for example, on the war. The major candidates were very reluctant to consider voting, cutting off funding a year ago. Now they will say that circumstances on the ground have changed so much, they want to make that vote.

And people wonder why I gave up on television news.

Dems have “gone further left than anybody would have anticipated”? Really? On what? Name one issue on which the Democratic policy position is not the mainstream position embraced by a majority of Americans.

Russert thinks Dems are “absolutely” going to find it hard to move to the center? First, Dems are already in the center. Second, Russert’s proof is that a handful of leading Dems voted against Bush’s war-funding policy — a position that was embraced by the vast majority of the country.

I realize Russert was probably just on FNC to promote his book, between the shot at Democratic presidential candidates and this more general shot at the party, does he really have to match his rhetoric with the network’s?

1. What's happened is that the Rethugs have gone so far right that
everything else looks "ultra-left".

That explains Hannity. Russert on the other hand is a classic useful idiot.

2. They're Right, To A Degree
Media Matter published an analysis of where the country stands these days and what they found is that the notion of this being a conservative country is a myth. The country as a whole is more progressive than anyone would have guessed. But let them keep thinking as they do. Their lack of a clue plays right into our hands. And every time they're disdainful of a left turn, they are cutting off their noses to spite their faces.

3. Not really, I anticipated a withdraw from Iraq AND impeachment.
After the Nov. elections but then again, I am one of 'those people' and Hannity would just shout me down after a few minutes.

4. Republicans went radically right
And more Americans have woken up to their real agenda.

But the left should not make the mistake of thinking the country will go Chavez left, because it won't.

5. That's because the American PEOPLE are much more liberal than these waterheads want to acknowledge.
If anything, the Democratic Party position isn't far enough along to catch up with the mainstream of America. To wit:

The Vast Majority of Americans want the Iraq war to end. NOW.

The Vast Majority of Americans are PRO CHOICE.

The Vast Majority of Americans want Universal Health Coverage and a Liveable Minimum Wage.

The Vast Majority of Americans want the drug war to end, think it's ridiculous to spend $40 Billion a year futilely trying to keep cancer grannies and Willie Nelson from smoking pot.

The Vast Majority of Americans support stem cell research, end-of-life-choice for the terminally ill, separation of church and state, and keeping theocratic church lady busybodies out of their bedrooms, bloodstreams, media choices and personal lives.

6. They just want you to think that.
They say it and say it and say it again and then people who do not want to think for themselves say to you, "Hey, those Dems are so far to the left nobody will ever vote for them."

No matter how far to the right one of our candidates is, if they don't support the R's like Lieberman does they are far left.

I have heard that Hillary is so far to the left she would make us a socialist country!!!!! After I catch my breath I just shake my head and try to explain but by that time it is so engrained in their heads from Hannity, Limbaugh etc. that it is impossible to change their minds. It would take some work on their part to really learn and that is not going to happen.

See how that works? If our rightest candidates are thought of as way far to the left then the right can get more right and still seem to be mainstream. The populace does not think for themselves, apparently they have given that up even in the most dire of circumstances that we find ourselves in.

7. Just like the myth of the liberal media
the "liberal media" myth allowed the MSM to stack the airwaves with far right extremist talking heads to give it "balance". Now any story that allows the people to glimpse the GOP in a negative light gets howls of "Liberal media! Liberal media"!! They are attempting to do the same with Democratic candidates; if a Dem candidate takes a non-GOP position they'll scream "Far left socialist! Far left socialist"!!! These tactics have already shifted most candidates to the right of center. Let's hope they don't swallow any more of that poisoned Kool-Aid.

13. Exactly!
Perfect example. Disgusting how we have all fallen for it (not we in the sense of us here but collectively in this country).

It is going to take years of the true left to change the momentum the right has. Now we just have to talk our own "liberals" into supporting those who are truly left or at the very least allowing them a voice.

8. Well, what do you expect? Russert is a big, fat, tiresome GOP windbag.
He carries their water. He kisses their asses.

And moreover....

How many more Big Russ books is that asshole gonna write?

Big Russ Takes Out the Garbage, Big Russ Goes to the Zoo...I mean, hell, the guy is no Nancy Drew.

I would just love it if Big Russ, in a fit of honesty, confessed to Little Timmeh that he was a whoremaster of the worst order in his craven youth, and as a consequence, Timmeh has a slew of half brothers and sisters of every hue scattered around the seamy seaports of the world. Now THAT would be a Big Russ book I'd buy and read--Big Russ and Me and My Half Brother From Kenya, and My Half Sister From Hong Kong, and My Half Brother from Sydney, and My Half Sister from Pattaya Beach, and My Half Brother from Caracas, and My Half Sister From Manila.....that piece of work would hit the NYT list and probably not come off for a few years!!!

I find rather suspect a guy who doesn't have ANYTHING to say about his mother, frankly. It seems pretty damned odd to me that that woman who cooked, cleaned, and wiped his big fat ass as an infant gets no mention whatsoever in any of his Glory Be To The Father schlockfests.

Mister "I Met the POPE, I did, I DID!!!" should realize that the Commandment reads: Honor thy Father AND Thy Mother.....

9. Russert is a corporate media puppet.
By going on a "competing" network just proves that Russert is in with the powers that be. I fully expect Russert to trash the Democratic candidate next year.

11. Dems haven't gone too far left--Rethugs have gone too far right.
And even if they really WERE centrist, why aren't THEY more popular?

12. Russert extricated his tongue from Limbaugh's butt?
I gave up on Russert years ago, when he did "interviews" with Rush Limbaugh that were nothing but lovefests. Actually took Limbaugh seriously and never challenged him, not even once. That told me all I needed to know about Tim Russert, and he has never shown me anything different. No wonder Cheney and crew always jumped to appear on - and use - Meet the Press.
