Fox News on the anniversary of Church State ruling (lies)
Edited on Sun Jun-17-07 09:19 PM by usregimechange
FoxNews had a short segment today about the anniversary of the Supreme Court ruling in Abington Township School District v. Schempp. They decribed it as when the High Court banned bible reading in public schools.

Notice how they leave out the following words: the High Court banned governmentaly written and mandated prayer in public schools.

Notice how other sources can get it right:

"...struck down the state law on Bible reading in public schools."
http://www.answers.com/topic/abington-school-district-v-schempp

"US Supreme Court decision of 1963 dealing with mandatory religious worship in public schools. The case challenged the constitutionality of an Abington, Pennsylvania, statute that forced students to recite Bible verses and the Lord's Prayer in school. The Court ruled that such practice violated First Amendment measures against establishing an official religion."

So why can't FoxNews get it right? Two options:

1). They are ignorant.
2). They did so deliberately to perpetuate a misconception/lie about the law.

Well, ok maybe three. All of the above.

2. Add the Hot Button Issue tactic and you have summed it up nicely
Rile up the base a bit so come monday, the water cooler will be a place to avoid for those with a working brain stem.
