Grand jury probes Alaska senator's ties to oil-field contractor

Grand jury reviews documents of work done on a home owned by Sen. Ted Stevens.

ANCHORAGE — A federal grand jury in Washington, D.C., has heard evidence about a remodeling project at U.S. Sen. Ted Stevens' home as part of a burgeoning investigation into corruption in Alaska, the Anchorage Daily News reported Sunday.

The investigation is linked to the VECO bribery case that produced guilty pleas last month from two of the oil-field service company's top executives, according to law-enforcement officials.

The investigation also led to federal indictments against one current and two former Republican members of the Alaska House of Representatives on bribery and extortion charges.

1. The two top guys in VECO, President and vice-President, are squeeling like pigs
They are telling prosecuters everything and I do mean everything. Both Ted Stevens and his son Ben are going down. The evidence is piling up and it won't be much longer until indictment are issued.

11. And, Toots, we were just wondering
if they'd have to return the airport to its old name -- Anchorage International Airport -- and drop the ostentatious "Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport". I mean, really, how could we have our airport named after a felon, even if he did provide all the pork?

4. Stevens is a very powerful man. I doubt that anything will stick to him.

12. Sonny Boy's going DOWN...
This isn't the only thing they've got on him ... he's been involved with all kinds of shady dealings up here.

9. I don't know; to incur the curiosity of a Grand Jury speaks volumes. nt

10. That's what I was thinking. I mean, they had old Ted's house
jacked up and one floor built under the rest of the house (so I understand). I can't think of many corps who would do that out of the kindness of their hearts.

Kindness? Hearts? I must be crazy.
