Hey, Clark fans! This just in...
Gen. Clark just finished an interview on the Ed Schultz radio show. Schultz asked him about running for President. His answer: "I haven't said I wouldn't run. I haven't decided yet. I'm still deciding."

Just thought ya'll would like to know! (The interview will be up on Schultz's web site shortly if anyone wants to listen.)

2. The MSNBC contract isn't going to hold him back
Apparently WKC worked it out with MSNBC so that it wouldn't interfere if he decides to run.

EXCELLENT!

3. Is it possible he might go Unity '08? He might have that in mind.
Edited on Mon Jun-18-07 11:55 AM by wienerdoggie
I would have mixed feelings about that.

On edit--note to mods--NOT endorsing third-party!

5. Doubtful.
I think most intelligent people know that Unity Party thing is mostly Republicans who are scared that they won't retain power.

6. Agree--I think any pushing of third-party is to keep Dems out of power--
however, Unity '08 is going to have to some up with SOME willing, prominent Democrat to be on their ticket. Wonder who will be willing to serve?

15. Lieberman?
Ed Koch?

I'm not sure, but you can expect it to be some DLC or Blue-Dog type.

Don't get me wrong, I think the concept of a unity ticket is admirable, particularly in light of all the partisan back-biting. I just don't think that THIS Unity Party ticket is on the up-and-up. I think it's a front to keep government right of center and in the pockets of corporations. The rank and file middle class are starting to get a little antsy about their futures, which is threatening the power elite. There are more of us than there are of them and we could actually take power if we voted in record numbers and ensured our votes were counted properly.

17. I think it will be either Bloomberg or Hagel somewhere on their ticket--
definitely a way to sneak Repub influence in there somewhere. Check this out from Bob Schieffer yesterday:

http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2007/06/17/opinion/schieffer/main2940449.shtml

I think he's a closet Repub who can't stand the thought of a purely Democratic WH win, myself--and with recent polls showing that folks prefer a Dem to an R in the WH for 2008 by a pretty big margin, we'll see a concerted effort to build up a third-party, which I believe will hurt Dems.

11. The concept of a "National Salvation Front" or "Unity" ticket is appealing to many,
to address a great many crises, but the only way it would be feasible would be if individual egos got quashed and the Senate and House leaders and their whips got the intransient in line. I would not bank on that happening at all.
General Clark is able to work at an international level, transcending party, yet remains too close to the people, in my opinion, to ever bow towards another Republican again. He has witnessed what has happened in his beloved Army to want to see the continuation of cannon fodder and of business as usual in the Pentagon and Foggy Bottom.
Clark would offend the right wing of the Republicans, the snake handlers and glossalalia practicioners immediately with his "fancy Oxford talkin'" and continuing demands for diplomacy with "Outlaw staes" like Syria and Iran. . .why he might even not appear at an AIPAC dinner!
Clark is smart, very very smart. If he is doing what would be the smart political thing to do, and that is to allow the media-anointed "front runners" (the polls and contributions tell us who they are daily) destroy one another by becoming victims of first apology, the of the worst political crime -- eisegesis -- then they will be weak and tired when a vibrant alterative alternative can be proposed formally.
Frankly, I am tired of the positions of candidates needing to be "explained" to me. I am tired of talk and smoke and mirrors and little substance all around. I want action. Plans. Votes. Not anyone to tell me what or how to think, rather to show me why they should gain my support. Actions are much louder than words, and pandering to the purse is base and vile. Show me a woman or man who is consistent and has the nation's best interest at heart, and not some hodgepodge of fence- straddling triangulation and maybe you will get the votes of those who analyze the entire spectrum and not let CNN or ABC or any other network tell me how I am probably going to vote before any primary is even having their ballots printed yet.

16. I agree with a lot of what you say--I am an Obama supporter now,
but was for Clark in '04. Should he enter the race, I will most likely stick with Obama, but would like to see Clark as his VP pick. Clark would instantly garner the respect of many on the right, especially since the military culture he comes from is so predominantly Republican, and he had to work his way through that and excelled. I wish he had entered sooner, though, despite what you say about the frontrunners beating each other up and weakening over time--not sure he can catch up at this point. That's why I was speculating about the advantages of the Unity '08 thing--seems like something that would have HAD to cross his mind at some point, and I could see him working with a Repub--but at what cost to the Democratic party? I'd rather he sit out than do that.

14. You're welcome! Ed's giving hell to Harry Reid at the moment
 (He really is giving him hell! Reid's getting very defensive)

BTW, not to dash any hopes or anything...it occurred to me that Clark keeping the question open allows him some maneuvering for a potential VP spot as well. It's a good way for the current field to gage his political power. Either way --
