Reason to unite behind the Democratic nominee
An article by Glenn Greenwald in Salon reminds us what we should not forget in the upcoming primary squabble. It is not Bush who is the enemy of the Republic so much as it is the people who put him in office. And as the author points out -- they aren't going anywhere. We all need to support whoever is selected in the Democratic Convention.

George W. Bush will leave the political stage forever on January 20, 2009. But the right-wing political movement which embraced and sustained him -- and which cheered on the damage he has wrought on this country -- is not going anywhere. They are, of course, actively seeking his replacement -- someone who will be cosmetically different but who will be a loyal and unyielding adherent to the core, defining principles of the Manichean worldview that drove the Bush presidency. Indeed, they are seeking a replacement who will be even more zealously devoted to America's militaristic and imperial role in the world and the domestic liberty-infringing policies it ensures

Actually, given the job performance of the current crop, I am sitting 08' out. I haven't the stomach for it any more.

2. I wish I could be confident of George W Bush actually leaving office...
If Rove, Chenny, et. all get their way (with some sort of military law) George W will be there for many years to come..... With what they are getting away with now, what's to stop them from staying?

3. NO GUN-GRABBERS!
If we can nominate someone who respects all of our Constitutional rights, problem solved. :toast:

"A well-regulated militia, being necessary for the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed."

Greetings, fellow militiaman! :toast:

7. No, I am not enlisted in the National Guard of my state
That is the militia that the founding fathers demanded be well regulated and the same one that our founding fathers gave us the right to be well armed so as to be able to provide that much needed regulation of said militia. That is what the amendment is all about you know - or maybe you are like most people and have no idea why it was included in the Constitution - it was put there so that a well armed populace would not be overtaken and controlled by state's militia which itself might be controlled by a power grabbing madman. Its intent was to allow the people to be protected from a militia run amuck by force of arms if need be. Granted it is a preposterous supposition that you and I, armed with shotguns and pistols, could take on Blackwater or the Idaho National Guard were they to turn against the people but that was the intent.
